He's just as human as everyone else but he's got way more leverage than most players ever get because he went from an unknown to a superstar. Such a unique scenario results in todays situation. What's he going to do, put on a world class performance and dominate elite NHL players then take less than he's worth just so he can rush back to training camp to skate circles around the prospects?
Gulutzans coaching philosophies are public, I've studied them so I'm pretty sure Gaudreau already knows most of Gulutzans ideas.

I'm not all that worried about Gaudreau having to catch up late, it'll suck but he's a smart intelligent hockey player and at the end of the day hockey is hockey. Systems are different but it's still the same game. People used adjusting to a new system as the reason Hamilton struggled early next year, and while there might be something to it, it was mostly because he just sucked to start the year.
What I do find hilarious is this idea that Gaudreau is special and different from other hockey players and his love of the game will drive him to sign before that puck drops opening night. It's romantic hogwash. He's already playing the game within the game, posturing, leaking information, having his agent get the word out he won't negotiate during the World Cup. "Johnny" is just like everyone else, he's trying to get the best deal for himself. Gaudreau won't cave from any contract demands he has before the first game due to his unabashed love of the game.
Johnny Hockey is just a nickname, given to him because Johnny Manziel was cruising through College football at the time. Gaudreau trademarked the name because he's a smart guy and didn't like others selling offensive tshirts with that moniker on it, not because he just wubs da game sooooo much.

Well that's a fairly dismissive argument that posits all hockey players have the same values. Clearly that's not true, Johnny has demonstrated a different skillset and drive than other players. That's not really debatable but you're turning that into some rhetorical nonsense that's embarrassing for you, you should stop. I get it, you don't like me but I don't care.

That's pretty bad form, IMO.
I don't care that he's at the game, but posting it online is pretty disrespectful to his team-mates who are at work.

My guess is management actually asked him to stay home. Why would they want him around camp with all the media and the inevitable distraction he would be.
But the word "few" caused panic here so I guess anything other than a signing is just terrible news.

No need for him to be here without a contract. I would however like his agent to be in town.

I get a bad feeling about all of this. Especially that's that "few years" comment on Cabbie, He seems like a big family's man, nothing wrong with that. I see him getting traded.

If he'd just sign his damn contract, he'd be able to afford better seats.

You really think he's going to ask for a trade? After everything he's said up to now. I strongly disagree.

I'm a big Gaudreau fan but at this point anything can happen... Could he get traded? Sure but I hope not! Any return less than a Mackinnon + would be unsatisfactory ... No eastern team has anything of value we would want ..... I hate the thought of this

He doesn't have a contract. Can't work. And as soon as he has one he'd be tied up for the next eight or so months. His family was a short flight from Toronto. I mean come on..what would you do?
