I hope Gaudreau gets signed to 8 Years. Just give him $8m a year and be done with it.
The Flames have never had a player with his raw talent before. I do believe he will win the Art Ross one year. Maybe not this year though. All depends on who Slots into the RW position on his line.

Sitting would be his decision. So you're saying he would sit for $500k?

That would be ludicrous

Perhaps Johnny will just pro rate his games played to reflect the half mil at the start of the season.

Strictly my opinion here, but I believe there is more at play than what's on the surface. I believe if Johnny doesn't ultimate plan to be a long term Flame, and doesn't want to sign long term, (bold prediction time) they may move him in the coming month for something huge. His value is off the charts, and I'm pretty sure you could net a huge fish with him.

I have nothing to base this on but a gut feeling, but something is telling me, Calgary is not in his long term plan.

Simply an opinion, nothing more. But I'm pretty sure there more than just dollars and term involved here.

People would have called you crazy if you predicted something like Subban/Weber a year ago. I feel we might see a similar type of move.

In any case, I appreciate you being civilized. It's refreshing.
This could be said for any rfa. That is why everyone says you "BUY" ufa years. The fact that he has like 5 rfa year actually is in the favor of Calgary.

Seriously... Kent Nilsson may have played with the Oilers at a point in his career, but that doesn't erase his years with the Flames.

Straight up offensive skillset, probably the best. Overall player, I'd say no.

I'd take a modern day Al Mcinnis any day of the week. And the guy could barely skate his first couple years in the league. He was a monster for us, and earned every ounce of his Conn Smythe.

Jarome was easily the best all rounder we ever had. Albeit his backchecking game declined huge in his last couple seasons here.

Hakan Loob was unreal. Some say the best swede forward ever.

And let's not forget Kenta.

What scares the hell out of me with JG, is he could be Kariya'd or Savard'd into oblivion with one bad judgment through the neutral zone. If someone gets him on the button, his career could change in an instant. And it's way more likely with his stature, than say Monahan or Bennett.

Or he could be rugged and durable like Marty St. Louis, but I think he was the exception to the norm with smaller players. Big difference though. Marty was a little ball of muscle tank under that gear, I'm pretty sure Johnny isn't as dense physically.

This is mentioned a lot and it's just not true. The biggest component to career ending concussions is awareness. Look at Eric Lindros. He was hulking and had his career cut short for continuously taking huge hits he didn't see coming. Concussions aren't more likely depending on how small you are. It's all about awareness. Any player is susceptible to a career ending concussion skating through the neutral zone with their head on the wrong way.

If anything, Gaudreau has shown he's one of the more heads-up and aware players in the league. That concern is massively overblown.

Think that's more myth than fact. Someone could elaborate more but anyone is one hit anyone from having their careers ended. For every Paul Kariya or Mark Savard there is Eric Lindros and Cam Neely. Hell Lindros and Kariya had their careers some to an end by the same guy in the same way.

Don't forget Doug Gilmore whose career and Maple Leaf come back came to a screeching halt when Dave Lowry skated backwards into him.

/\ Loob is still the only Swede to score 50 in a season.

Interesting comparison. In Nilsson's best year, he was 3rd in the league in scoring. Johnny was 6th last year, in his 2nd year. I don't believe you can compare point totals since scoring is what, 3 goals a game lower than in the 80's.

In terms of pure offensive talent only, Gaudreau could conceivably be viewed one day as most talented Flame of all time.

Always makes me wonder. Would Scott Stevens had made it to the HHOF without what would have now netted him 40+ games a year in suspensions, and had him more reviled than Matt Cooke.

Anyway back on topic. Lol
