Johnny G is an angel if he takes a penny less than Tarasenko.

Can't wait until we get one of those. Who knows, maybe even Gaudreau could become that guy!

I'm constantly ooohing and aaaahing, but mostly because I'm fascinated by the Enmax Energy Board.

They could've allocated funds differently. Didn't matter though, because they never had the right mix to begin with. They still managed to spend the same money on worse players. Iginla's $7m didn't stop them from doing anything, but bad trades, bad contracts and bad drafting sure did.
Whether Gaudreau is the highest paid player on the team or not has no bearing on how successful this team can be if the pieces that are already here continue to develop. Stop wasting money on pluggers and there won't be cap problems. The Flames are historically their own worst enemy when it comes to their cap situation, and it's never been because they've their paid great players too much. It's because they seem to have an insatiable desire to possess a collection of overpaid depth players. This has been a fault for each of the Sutter, Feaster and Treliving regimes IMO.

Or when Jamie Benn held out in 2013 and went on to sign 5 and 8 year contracts.
And to pre-emptively respond to Gaudreauvertime, I would be happier signing Gaudreau to a 5x$5.75M contract now and then some huge $9.5M contract in the future compared to an 8x$8M contract now. I want those $2.25M in our back pocket now and I'm willing to accept the extra ~$1.5M in what would be years 6-8 of an 8 year deal.
I don't care if that buys zero years of UFA. That is not a disaster in my books. In 5 years Johnny will be 29, not 26 or 27 like normal non-NCAA UFAs. The next 5 years are his prime. Pay him as cheaply as possible for them then who cares if he walks.

Yes, the difference we likely have the right mix now, and paying them all will be important.
Your posts are making my point for me.

Yeah, I mean why be precise about something like numbers when discussing a contract?

Oh, I know - it's weird. He argues for the max when he actually voted for 7.25-7.35 (for 7 year mind you).
Not looking for congrats - it's a poll - I'm just saying I find it odd that I think Gaudreau should make more than him but find myself arguing against him because he pushes the $8M figure so hard.

Precise? Yea let's go around saying he's a ".99 PPG Player". Thats not tedious or unnecessary at all.
Disputing the label "PPG player" for a guy with 78 points in 79 games is the very definition of pedantic

The question is what I think he would sign for in a hypothetical 7 year deal, not what he is worth. There is a huuuuge difference.
