I've been around several real fights in my life, and none of them involved kicks to the junk.. dirty pool man.
99% of real fights end up on the ground, and all those guys you describe as cuddling could probably cuddle your arm right out of it's socket or cuddle every bit of blood from getting to your brain.

No wrestling is set up for the lowest common denominator, it is for people who look at car wrecks hoping to see blood, it is a joke that anyone over the age of 17 would watch grown steroid junkies roll around on a mat pretending to hit each other in order to get their kicks off. Wrestling as a sport is a laughable concept (professional wrestling of course) to say that wrestling is an art is an embarrassment.

I'm shocked to see how the topic of wrestling really brings out some hate from people.
For the last time, if you don't like it, great, pat yourself on the back and go watch Greys Anatomy, just don't bring it into this thread. I've watched wrestling since I was just a little kid, and I still catch it from time to time, and I'll be going to Raw when it comes (Whenever that ends up being.) and just because I find it entertaining, it doesn't make me stupid, redneck, or illiterate.
This thread was about Chris Benoit and his family, but has now been derailed into another "Wrestling is for stupid people" thread. Please just go away.

Back to Chris Benoit...
I find it amazing how a lot of people assume they know Chris Benoit from watching him in the ring. Chris Benoit played a character in the ring. Wrestlers are actors. Like any actor, some of his real personality came through in his character. But its still acting.
And people who ran into him around town say he was such a nice guy. Wow, because he took a couple of minutes to speak to you, he must be a great dad and loving husband.

The Benoit situation shocked me, I'm not going to lie. Part of it is that none of it makes sense. I'm not thinking of it as a "he was a great guy, what happened" stand point. I'm thinking of it as a "I don't know the guy" and yet it still doesn't add up. For every scenerio there is a counter, which generally there isn't in a case like this.
This situation is completely messed up, which means before people go defending or accusing him they need MORE facts.
I find it hard to believe that anyone would do what Benoit did, which makes me think there was more to this. Was it steroids? I dunno, if they were giving their son growth hormones wouldn't steroids be a logical next step? However he was a wrestler/body builder too. See what I mean? For every situation there is a counter.
I can't comment one way or the other. A very good friend of mine is just sick over what happened. She's the type of person that follows the behind the scenes stuff, and thought Beniot was the be all end all of great guys. Another friend of mine had his MSN nic, "The loss of a hero, in more ways that one" and it's true I suppose.
I don't want to comment with the need of more information. But I'm in shock. Wow I mean just wow. It's not that Benoit was a celebrity, but the fact of what happened.
On a side note, for those that think wrestling isn't real. It's not in the sense that the outcomes are pre-determined, but the injuries are very real. They are atheletes in the truest sense of the word. I don't watch it much anymore, as I was always more a fan of the public speaking than the wreastling. Action movies are fake, but if you're a James Bond fan and not a wrestling fan you have no right, none what so ever to make fun of wrestling fans. As wrestlers are in better shape than actors, and I'm sure the last Bond (Daniel something) was on just as many roids as a Randy Orton for example.

Global news reported an odd coincidence tonight. His old tag team partner and former best friend also died this weekend in a completely unrelated event. Heart attack apparently...didnt catch his name. A relatively unknown wrestler.
They also said that Benoit may have used a wrestling chokehold to kill his son. They didn't say where they got that info, but this just adds to the bizarre level.

For the most part - yes I am. The people who watch wrestling are the same people who watch springer and crap like that... and that in my view is the lowest form of entertainment and an embarrassment to western/modern society.

Its funny how you can pass judgement on a group of people based on the type of entertainment that they watch. How very small minded of you. I consider myself to be fairly well read, fairly cultured, and I think that I have above average intelligence, and I like to watch wrestling every once in a while. I used to go to stampede wrestling cards constantly because I loved the action.
There are people out there that are far more intelligent and successful then the average message board poster that were wrestling fans. Ted Turner was a huge wrestling fan, Ralph Klein was a huge wrestling fan. The head of the royal familiy in Saudi Arabia used to have Stampede Wrestling tapes flown out to him. Former president Bill Clinton was a wrestling fan as well. None of these folks are toothless pickup truck driving yokels.
Hey maybe you should tell us what some of your guilty pleasures are so that we can totally insult you.
If you want to talk lowest common denominator entertainment, maybe we should lump boxing into it, hey its pretty much fixed and a there are a lot of thugs and criminals that make a living at it. What makes it more legitimate then pro-wrestling. Lets look at NFL football, its got story lines, criminal characters, and incompetant refs, its just like wrestling.
Its easy to judge my friend when you don't know what your talking about.

Any guy that can win popular elections in both civic and provincial elections in a dominant fashion, turns the provinces fortunes around after Alberat was left in a mess, is clearly not an idiot (even if he did mail in his last term)

To pretty much call wrestling fans the scurge of society is incredibly naive. I appreciate the art and athelticism in the sport, and that's why I watch it. Am I there a redneck hooligan? I have two university degrees, I volunteer for my community, and I have travelled to many parts of the world experiencing different cultures. If that is all negated because I watch wrestling then I guess everyone else truly doesn't understand the sport of wrestling.
And for the record, when you say wrestling, you mean wrestling ENTERTAINMENT. Otherwise you're calling all the audiences who watch Greco-Roman wrestling in the Olympics as the "lowest common denominators."

Sorry but I would say the vast majority of those who watch wrestling are under the age of 16 or those who have to be lacking some cognitive functions. I can appreciate the true sport of wrestling and the old time stampede wrestling, but the steroid junkies that you see on TV now are nothing more than an embarrassment. How a grown man can sit and watch two greased up roid junkies rolling around on a mat and fake hitting each other with chairs is something I won't understand.
Every person watches a wrestling match at some point during their life, but I am talking about that one person everyone knows that can't break free of the fantasy that is professional wrestling and watches it around 9 hours a week. It isn't even a sport it is an event... sports have some degree of truth behind them...
