Whereas come October 21st and the snow just fell....you have this damn convertible on your lot thats just getting older and winter just started.
For the record I'm one of those suckers who has a convertible. I always figured I got a decent deal because I bought a previous model year in January when I would have thought it was tougher to sell.

Niche vehicles are a little bit different.
Convertibles, muscle cars, would fall into a niche market. They would tend to sell better in the spring.

Long story short over the weekend I hit a Deer with my car and now it's a write off. My insurance will be calling me tomorrow with a settlement offer, and realistically I would like to know the value of my vehicle before the s try and low ball me.
So here are some facts about my car tell me what you think it's worth:
-It's a 1994, 2 door Honda Civic Si.
-It has a lot of KM's 325,355 to be exact.
-Since I've owned it (4 year) I've replaced the ignition, water pump, steering column, radiator, and just put on 4 new tries.
I know they won't offer me much but in my current finical situation every penny counts. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also I mentioned my story in detail in the Random Thoughts thread and was told that there is numerous discussion/advice about this sort of thing on CP, however I'm having trouble finding any. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great thanks.
|
In all honesty, I dont think you will get a lot from your vehicle, so I would grind the insurance company for as much as you can get and when they finally scream Uncle, take the last offer they made.
the other poster mentioned canadatrader as a reliable source for valuation and I would tend to agree. We dont have a book that would be of any better value to you.

The only thing that makes mine a little different is that I bought the vehicle in the US. How much of a discount, if any, should I expect to give because everything is in miles?

I dont think you need to worry about it very much althought maybe a slight discount due to it being a US vehicle would be in order. I would think a maximum of 5% at most.

Tim, Axel and... anyone else who may have input on this,
I was thinking about starting a new thread, but I think this would be an appropriate place to put it.
I'm currently in Ottawa, and would like to ship my car to Calgary at the beginning of summer, not really wanting to drive it back. What should I expect in terms of cost? Are there any companies you would recommend?
Thanks!

I've got quotes from multiple company, most quoting over $1000 total (including Fuel Surcharge+taxes).
I'm a little skeptical about the ones that offer it at around $800 though. Should I be weary of anything? I'm paranoid when it comes to something this big...

I just bought a car, is it worth it to buy extended warranty?
Under standard warranty, my electrical and power accessories are covered for 3-yrs/60,000km, while I got 6-yrs/150,000km power-train.
The extended warranty would put me back about $2500, do you think I should do it or keep the $2500 and take my chances?

What kind of car do you have? Will it really be worth shipping it to Calgary? There's a lot of good deals that could still be had here.

It's a 2008 Mazda 3 Sedan. I'm driving it in Ottawa at the moment. From how I interpret your post (and I do apologize if I am wrong) you sound like you think that I'm buying the car from out of province to drive in Calgary.
The car I have drive in Ottawa is my own. And I'm going back to Ottawa once summer's over.

No I know what you meant, I was just curious about the car cuz you may be better off getting rid of it in OTT and just buying in Calgary.
Since it's a 2008 probably not. I've heard good things about Searail and Allied transportation.
Good luck.

I would stick to one of the big guys. SeaRail, Hansens etc.. there are some horror stories with all of them but at least with the big guys if there is a problem you should be able to get it worked out.

Yeah, that's how I feel as well.
I got a quote from Hansen's for a Terminal to Terminal delivery. It works out to under $1000 after fees and taxes, so it's not too bad
Thanks Axel and Tim!

Hi,
I'm looking into buying a brand new car and I'm looking at two options. An Acura and a Honda. With the economy being the way it is and with your experience, how much bargaining room do I have with these dealerships? Can I expect to save thousands?
Thanks in advance.
