I have a question. How come you cant go in and talk down a vehicle. Then once you get it a good price, tell them you have a trade in and just get that amount taken off?
It seems once you introduce a trade-in the price goes back up.

who says you cant?if they dont give you a final net price that you agree with, you are not obligated to do the deal.everything is negotiable if you are prepared to walk away from the deal.

shouldn't really affect the price at all the trade.. If they are dealing with net numbers. Where the problem arises is when they start to use overallowances etc.. showing you $x when really only putting $y into it.. The North American guys are famous for doing this.

This is pretty impressive for a guy who joined the forum minutes ago.
Slam someone who is trying to provide a service with no benefit to himself. The fact his thread is over 300 posts says that he probably does have a real job.

Hey Tim, can you tell me the value of a '97 Mazda 626 with 166k? It's in great condition, a bunch of new parts in the last couple of years, and runs like a gem.
I doubt I can get much for it, and I was considering maybe running it into the the Bow River, but if I can flip it to a student I will.
Thanks for the help!

So, I have this assignment at school, and i'm supposed to find some interest rates for car loans from car dealers so I can compare them with interest rates from banks or credit unions. For 36 and 48 month terms. I'm not sure where to look, so I figured here is the best place to start. Need them soon.

umm, why not go manufacturers websites, and look at the interest rate they are offering on their lease vehicles. They have them right there. If not from the main menu, then when you build and price any vehicle, it shows up.
Either that or give a few dealerships a call, and ask them what their interest rate is on lease vehicles for the terms you are interested in.

Well I can give you a couple rates from my latest trip to the dealers. At Hyatt Mitsubishi, they were offering an 8.8% financing rate on used vehicles. Crowfoot Toyota was offering a 5.75% financing rate (below prime) on their used vehicles (best rate I found). I found quite a few were offering 0% on new vehicles (not sure if that was just for financing though).
Edit: While I never actually asked the dealer, I would assume those rates are based on a 48 to 60 month term.
Arsenal is right though, if you just go to the manufacturers website, you can find most leasing and financing rates there.

Tim - is Feb/March a traditionally slow time for new car sales? I was looking at something in the US and was wondering if there'd be some cash rebates or something that time of year. (this dealer will factor in rebates)
Conversely, what's the best time to sell a car privately? Feb/March good?

Feb sometimes can be a bit slow, but coming into march you are starting the spring buying time so things are starting to pick up. I really don't think the timing is as big of a deal anymore.. there are always deals on and always people looking to buy cars.
Be careful if it is an 08 that you are looking at... lots that can't be imported.
