LOL @ 3hrs for spark plugs. You should take the plug and tell the service manager to shove it.

K, so I see I vehicle I like on the internet, at a dealer. So, let's say they have it listed for 20,000.
If I go there, what kind of price should I start with and end with, without embarassing me or the sales guy.
Is there a % I could use, say offer 10% less, and pay 5% less than what it is listed for. Question for both cash and for finance.

Depends on the brand. Domestic or import?

I'd really appreciate an idea on the value of this car:
1992 Mercedes 400e. 4 door sedan. It has 207k km but it's in a great condition(no rust/body is perfect) and it drives very well. It is fully loaded, with leather, sunroof, everything electrical, heated seats etc... The windshield will need to be replaced.
Any idea what the value might be?
Thanks.

Get a quote from carcost.com or whatever it is - that gives you the wholesale (dealer) price.
Then offer 5% more than that, and go from there.

REalistily it is a hard car to put a number on it is 15 years old after all. Basically it is worth whatever someone will pay for it... If it was mine i woudl ask somewhere in the $5,000-$6,000 range and see what you get.

I would take it in and get them to go over it from end to end to see if they can find anything.

Brakes might be a little high on the labour side.. Parts are right i just replaced the rear brakes on my 03 ML500 2 weeks ago...
Water pump.. Depending on when you vehicle went into service it might be covered under the 5 year 120k powertrain warranty.
Plugs are right.. there are 12 spark plugs in that engine and they are a pain in the but to replace.. But once done shoudl be good for another 5 years.
Fuel filter is a maintence thing that should be done every few years.. If possible try to check when it was last done. if within the last 24 months don't bother.
Would need more info on the defrost thing.

When's the best time to buy a vehicle? I was thinking of waiting until mid summer when the companies put on their "family discount" promotions.

My daughter wants to buy her second used car. She's early 20s. How can she find fair prices for used cars without having the book? I don't want her to overpay.

I am in a similar situation to the poster above, as I am in my early 20s I am looking at getting a better car than the piece of garbage that I have right now, the question that I have is whether it is worth the wait for the Ford Family plan in July or whether that is a price that I could walk onto any lot and get with half an hour of haggling.

what kind of a deal would a dealership give you if you got a new vehicle and a used vehicle from them at the same time, both 15 - 20 range.

From a depreciation POV am I better off to buy an older luxury car (2001 Maxima, Acura TL etc) with about 100k or a newer 2004+ family car (Mazda 3/6)?
I am looking to drop about $20k and put another 100k on the odometer.
