That would be awesome, obviously. I actually can see 30ish though, which would be encouraging.

Bennett is playing his best hockey of his career. That Edmonton game truly showed how important he is to this team. If we could just figure out how to hit the net more instead of the post, this guy could be a 20-20 player consistently. He fights two weight classes ahead BTW, something that is unreal to watch. Love it.

Yeah, no matter how you view his hockey potential, that was a pretty impressive tilt against Nurse. Nurse is a tough son of a bitch, beat Hunter Smith during his rookie season in a pretty bloody battle. So Bennett holding his own was very impressive.

I could see something like the contract Turris signed with the Sens at 5 years around $3.5M. Bennett brings a needed physical element and still shows flashes of scoring ability.

Thanks to the trade with the Hurricanes the Flames now have 5 players picked in the top 6 of the draft in the years since Iginla was traded. If Lindholm, Monahan, and Tlachuk maintain their scoring rate it is okay that Bennett isn’t a top line scorer.

Let's have a look at Sam Bennett's comparable's, many players his age and older with the same points totals and points per game are mostly earning less than 1 million.

How does Treliving justify offering Bennett anymore than he already makes, sure there are Sam's intangibles but not an extra 2 million worth on top of what his point totals are worth.

He’s not worth 2 mil per.

I do not expect that when his contract comes up that the number will be that.

So far Bennett is playing his ass off, Sam and Matt are the heart of the team right now, I don't see a large raise but I do see both party's liking a one year decent raise to about $3m in hopes the progression continues. having said that, if he continues to play with Matt he could get his offensive gumption back and cost $5m.

So you don't give him a qualifying offer at the end of the season? Just let him walk?

The Flames should get him a shooting coach. He could be our next Gary Roberts.

Funny thing is, he works out with Gary Roberts in the off season.

In my opinion, Giordano remains the heart and soul of the Flames.

Being up on the second line Sam has had way more opportunities with the puck on his stick close to the net. It looks to me like he’s spent his whole NHL career worrying about all the other aspects of the game (defence, not taking penalties etc) that he’s forgotten how to score.

I’m against trading him.

But it’s obvious what he needs to work on.

I get a similar vibe from Backlund. He is so good at driving possession and getting the puck into the offensive zone that when he has an opportunity for a shot, it looks to me, like he shoots it into the goalies chest and thinks, “job well done”.

I thought Sam took it to him off the bat with pure aggression. If it had gone longer, I don't like Sam's chances. Nurse is a tough dude.

It reminded me of when Tootoo just waded in against Iginla, who would normally murder him.

The way i look at it he is progressing as the season is going on.

Oct - 13 games for 3 points
Nov - so far 8 games for 3 points.

It is a work in progress, I don't think it would be a stretch to say he is capable getting another 3 points or so points in the remaining 5 games if he stays on that 2nd line. Prorated 6 points in 13 games is 37 points.

He has a bit of a streak every season. 7-8 points in 10 games.

The key this year is if that streak propels him or if he goes 20 games with no points afterwards.
