This really shows that he's matured a lot. He's handling things like a professional and it seems like he's just going to let his play dictate what happens. I'm pulling for him a little more at this point....

Good on Sven for putting out that fire the way he did. Love the quotes from him about how he's handling this demotion.

Well, I believe that conclusively solves that.

Just as I said in a previous post, parents really need to step back and STFU.

His dad should have known better than to talk to a reporter at all.

It's not like his parents are the first or last to speak up about something like this. I think what a parent says isn't necessarily the view of the player as parents are entitled to their own opinion. Really this has been a little overblown IMO.

No, but nobody's parents should be commenting publicly about their kid's performance at work and what he thinks about his bosses and the company he works for.

Translate it to any other industry and its laughably ridiculous, the same should apply here.

Unless his parents are his agents they should stay out of and if a reporter calls them they should tell him where to shove it.

The worst thing a parent can do for a kid at any stage of their hockey career is to get involved in where your kid plays. Get the kid to the game on time then sit in the stands and STFU.

Nope, right here his dad is saying he was misquoted.
When people say 'he didn't write it down the way I said it' after they say something embarrassing that gets them in trouble, what they mean is 'he didn't write it down the way I realize now I should have said it.' Or maybe 'the way I meant it.' Most reporters record everything, even phone conversations. And every time I'm familiar with when someone said they were misquoted, the reporter's record showed that they were just trying to cover their ass.

The thing people need to be wary about when talking to the media isn't that they'll be misquoted (which is illegal and will get a reporter fired). It's that the reporter will capture exactly what they say - even if it's ill-considered and embarrassing.

I've been quoted a few times. Always exactly as I said it. Just not necessarily in the context in which I said it. And context means EVERYTHING.

I've been quoted wrong by the press. With google and web archives expect the misquote to last 10-15 years.

Lucky it was a matter of such geekatute that no one noticed. It drove me crazy though.

So I agree with the other poster that said just shut up. The only media you can trust are the ones that are dead. LOL

My guess is that Sven's dad learned his lesson.

Sven is doing everything right and he will be up with the big club sooner rather than later. And when he is, he will be all the better a player and person for this time.

I think Hartley knows there is more to Sven, "he wants him to taste it" It's the same quote he used with Jooris, he also said that Jooris showed passion and played like it was last game. I think some ways Hartley has said things that he wants others like Sven to read and take note. Hartley mentioned that he is playing young guys and that if you don't bring it you won't be playing so now 2 vets are sitting for tonight's game.

Sven needs to bring it in spades and show that he can be that player; Sometimes he looks great other times he seems a little passive. I think he has been a lot less passive this preseason but he needs to chuck that out and grab his spot on the team. If he could kind of follow in the footsteps of Backlund he might see a little more of what Hartley is looking for.
