Punch in your postal code here. I buy it at Pet Planet because the store is within walking distance, 12 pound bag is, I think $24 sorry don't remember exactly it could be more. It's not the cheapest food out there nope, but really $30 for 40 pounds of food, you can't expect that to be a quality product.

kirkland dog food is where it all started for my little guy - after about a week, the constant scratching started, after two weeks the ear infections started to set in.....kirkland is a high rated cheap dog food, but nowhere near the class of a premium brand food.

check out the ingredients - if corn is in the top 5, its to be avoided - its simply a filler, provides absolutely nothing for your pooch - and is not tolerated well at all

My dog developed this problem a few years ago, he was 8 at the time and was constantly licking various areas until they were raw and bleeding. The vet said he had likely developed an allergy and recommended tests that would cost $$ and take months to find out what. While I was deciding what to do, I decided to try a fish based dog food, and it worked really well, so I didn't do the allergy tests. He's still on it and he hasn't had the skin condition since. I'm sure there are others that work, the one I use is Natural Choice Herring/Rice/Potato, approx $60 for 30 lbs at Petsmart.

We're on a vet based Medikal food right now for dogs prone to allergies... ironically enough I think my dog is starting to develop allergies to it.

So because of this thread I'm thinking maybe we'll try that salmon based Now dog food.

It's definitely different for every dog. My dog eats this food now. He's allergic to chicken, grain, rice, beef, and a laundry list of other things. Snow mold also causes him to scratch & lick in the spring as well.

My vet did the blood work for one of his dogs and found it was allergic to cockroaches. Dogs can develop allergies to more than just food.

Our Labradoodle has allergies, and we feed him the Orijen fish. Took quite a few dog foods to get to that, but he really likes it, and it agrees with him a lot more. It's pricey, but he's our shnoodle, and he's worth it!

We started the raw food diet today. Figured we would try it for a while and see if anything gets better. It works out to $1 per pound and he eats about 2lbs a day so really it's not as expensive as I thought it might be.

It was a scam, he took the money and bought Canucks playoff tickets. Jokes on him though!

The thought crossed my mind, HOOT.

Buddy is doing pretty good. His leg is completely healed as well as his pelvis. We are finding that after being in his crate so much over the past few months his endurance is not very good anymore. After about 30 minutes in the off leash area he's pretty much ready to call it quits. I'm sure that will come back the more he rehabs. The muscle in his left leg is still pretty non existent.

As for te skin, that's another issue. We took him for a biopsy which basically gave us no results. Thanks to the vet for that waste of money. She now believes its some kind of allergy so we are in the process of trying to rule some things out. I believe it is starting to look a little better, though.

That all said, he's happy which is all we really care about. He's had a brutal life so far with one issue after another. We hope now that this is all behind us and we are moving into our new house this week that he can finally have some normalcy and consistency. Thank you again so much to those who helped us out. We still can't express how much it meant to us.

I'll try to post some pictures once I get to my computer.

Erik

Just thought I'd give an update on Buddy.

His leg has healed perfectly. His skin issues are gone. He's just a happy boy now.

Here's a video of him swimming in the river, his favorite thing to do.

Thanks again to everyone!!

Dude you aren't the only one - I didn't look at the dates and was going to reply that the fund raising thermometer wasn't working right because it was already full.

Well done CP - this was a great thread!!
