I really want the Flames to land Konsta Helenius from Buffalo. Super wishful thinking but he is the answer to all the questions at center for the Flames.

The Coleman preferred window note from Sec was interesting because I think earlier Royle9 mentioned something around Coleman having a preferred trade window.

Wouldn't be surprised if that window for Coleman was after Jan 1 to not disrupt his young family before the holidays, but before the Olympics so that of a trade did happen he would have two weeks off to help be able to sort out whatever would need to be sorted in moving his family, especially with his wife being pregnant.

No one can guarantee that outcome, and if he wanted the Flames to pick higher he'd make moves that would "essentially guarantee" that too. He has a ton of cap space, a ton of prospect and draft capital and he made zero moves to improve the present on ice product this off season. There were really good UFAs and he made no offers to them. There were teams trading good players and he made no offers on them.

The only thing he hasn't done that you are asking for is trading players, and there's nothing to say that won't happen (since it happened before).

Most of those Maloney quotes are just him saying that, as players and coaches, the team detests the things that get you to a top pick. Because it means they are losers.

They don't enjoy the things fans do - sitting back and saying "if we suck now we get to pick high and maybe become a successful team in 5 years". Because a lot of them don't have 5 years left, or because their next contract depends on what they do now, or because losing just sucks.

Does it mean the team is going to make moves to avoid losing now? No. It just means they don't like the feeling.
