Flames can insist on that player all they want but it’s either intentionally unrealistic, I.e they will not deal with the Leafs based on a crazy trade ask, or they’re talking bigger deal.

Or, more likely, it’s someone using the media to advantage their position.

Why would they be talking a bigger deal if that’s the price just for Andersson?

Toronto is either going to have to pony up, create a “parts” deal with that kind of value (they can’t), or let Andersson go to a competitor who actually has something to offer.

Again, zero reason for Calgary to add.

Knies isn’t the price for just Andersson. It’s not a realistic one anyway. The Flames can bluff their hand, but it’s just not a good faith negotiation if that’s the price they’d hold on.

The value equivalence isn’t there, even if you factor in blocking your rival from acquiring a player you covet.

The Leafs with Andersson and minus Knies doesn’t make them a better team, one for one. Which is why I say: if the Flames want Knies and it stops there, they’d need to add. If they don’t want to add then there’s not a deal to be made.

This seems a bit out of touch if that is the Flames ask. Despite what Flames fans emotions, or those in the organization, might be towards Treliving holding grudges isn’t the best way to do business.

If, in fact, the ask from the Flames for Andersson is Knies, if I were the Leafs, I’d be asking for Gridin or Coronato as the add from the Flames. In other words, there’s no deal here to be made. If the Leafs want Anderson, their best chance is likely to come in the offseason as a UFA, if he gets there.

Bear in mind, there were rumors last year that the Leafs were prioritizing Knoes over Marner. That should indicate the likelihood of zknies being involved in any trade. Extremely unlikely and certainly not for Andersson.

So the Flames should just make another bad trade with Toronto just because they want Andersson and don't want to give up ..... Wait, they can't give up a competitive offer outside of Knies because they blew their load already.

There's no deal with Toronto, even with the rumored Brad tax.
