Andersson is gonezo.
It’s just a matter of time, probably before the deadline in a perfect world, but the extension caveat really throws a wrench into the value right now.
I do think that Kadri is likely gone as well, just depends on his mood going into the break/deadline as he controls his fate and CGY isn’t in a rush to trade him for spare parts, he’s going to get a solid return if he’s moved.
Coleman I’m not certain of, I’d say it’s probably 40/60 right now on moving but things change fast. Number of teams keeping him on their radar for sure.

Yeah Coleman and Kadri get added to a really good run of UFA signings in Calgary in the last decade.
Glencross
Hudler
Frolik
Tanev
Markstrom
Coleman
Kadri
vs
Brouwer
Neal

They are going to miss him on the ice and the locker room. I know he's going to be moved and most of us want it but the team is going to be a lot worse after.

That's actually really good when you consider the mine field that is NHL free agency. For most teams the list would be opposite with more busts than good signings.

I just want to highlight that Royle is not even certain they will trade Andersson.
If he's not traded by the deadline, he walks for nothing in the summer.

Yeah it's really too bad the timings not quite right.
He's a great player and it would of been nice to see him be a full career Flame.
It just makes too much sense to trade him now on alot of levels.

That Royle post is great. There's definitely no certainty any of the three will be traded by the deadline.
We should be pushing to trade all three. Realistically. If we were serious about building this club into a contender.

You took his term "Gonezo" to mean he's unsure that he will be traded?
You have to be working pretty hard to see what you want to see to miss that one.

I remember watching the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton right after he got drafted. So poised, snapping passes all over the ice, fought Nurse and got his ass kicked sticking up for a teammate (I think it was Mangiapane but could be wrong), media found out after the game that it was his first fight ever, pretty sure Burke signed him on the spot.
Awesome player and awesome Flame. In a world where the Flames are contending, I'd love for this guy to be a lifer. For his sake though I hope he goes somewhere, is a dog for some team in the playoffs, and then comes back to Calgary in retirement.

I wonder if Andersson to NJ makes any sense, especially if the Flames retain that which would leave NJ remaining cap space to make moves closer to the deadline.
To NJ
Andersson (50% retained)
2026 3rd (from Van)
To CGY
2026 1st

Why do you say Kadri controls his fate when he only has a partial 13 team no trade list?
If he says he wants to stay the Flames will keep him?

Only if another team snags Hughes but you have to think they are hoarding their assets to bring in Quinn

Lol, dude, no. It is you who is only reading half of the statement. Here I bolded it for you:

"probably before the deadline in a perfect world, but"
That implies that there is a chance, probably a reasonable one given the but, that they don't trade him by the deadline. He is Gonezo either way in the summer, as we wont sign him at the number he is demanding. It's whether or not we extract value for him that's at issue. He is gone, but when matters.

I think he is talking about extension for the other team which is what teams will want assurances of if they give up the assets the flames want. Not an extension with the Flames if that is what you were thinking?

IMO What is happening here is what we have heard all along. The flames treat these NMCs like they are ironclad and impossible to work around/ treat players wishes above all other items.
No comment on whether that is the right idea, but I think it is clear as we have heard all along that they will not try to trade Kadri without his full consent, regardless of their agreements with him.

To be fair right after he says "Gonezo" he says "probably before the deadline in a perfect world".
I assume he means that it would happen sooner rather than later and not wait until deadline day itself.
But there is a bit of weird wording there that makes it seem like it could not happen and he's just Gonezo as a UFA...because if you trade him of course it has to happen before the deadline.
I think the issue with Andersson right now is he's no longer the best d-man on the market...that's Hughes. So anything that happens will be held up by whatever happens with Hughes at this point.

Because a 13 team no trade list is a lot of protection.
1) He does not need to include teams that are stacked at C and won't want to pay a premium for another C
2) He does not need to include teams that are likely to be bottom feeders and won't want to pay a premium for him
3) He probably does not need to include teams with impossible cap situations because they won't be able to fit his contract in
Then he can use his 13 team list to eliminate the rest.
If he has a good agent, they probably worked that list out last summer. There may be some surprises, like how the Penguins and Flyers are not the bottom feeders that were expected but both teams are pretty set on their C situation so even if they are not in category 2, they are in category 1.

Yeah, after the Gaudreau fiasco and saying he would never let that happen again, I can't see Conroy letting Andersson walk for nothing.
