probably not, no
but it is interesting that proposals / quasi rumours are coming out of Toronto, including him. It is also interesting that Dreiger said Toronto might have to include him - it's liek feelers are being thrown out
crazier things have happened

Does Knies with 5 years left on his deal as another left shot left wing make the most sense for Calgary? (For some reason I thought he signed an 8 year deal but it was a 6 which should have known as that is Trelivng’s favorite term)

Regarding the 2028 1st...
Obviously, now is better than later, all else equal
However, the Flames already have 2 1sts in 2026, and they are likely to get more 1sts when they trade Kadri and Coleman. Would it be cool to have 3 or 4 of them this year? Of course. But I also like the idea of having 2, year after year. Imagine having 2 1sts for 5 years in a row?! Then, even when they have to pay Parekh, McKenna and others, they'll still have lots of prospects coming up on ELCs. Imagine:
2024: Parekh, Gridin
2025: Reschny, Potter
2026: top 5, additional 1st
2027: top 5, additional 1st
2028: our pick + a Toronto pick that could be anything
For the opening season of the new building, the Flames would be teeming with young talent. And they wouldn't all be needing raises at the same time.

If the flames want knies, it would need to be something like:
Knies
Kadri, Andersson, Zary
Some blend of cap dump/ retention to make the $ work.
Could be a reverse Dion!

Also gives you flexibility on out years if you want to package one in an offer while still maintaining a pick. Out of principle, I think having a first round pick every year is good practice.

If the Flames could get Knies for a package around a UFA and 35 year old Kadri you take that deal and run
It would be one of those deals people look at in a few years wondering WTF one team was thinking

Didn't Sutter apparently not notify other GMs he was available and pretty much go straight to Toronto? I seem to recall that being rumoured at the time or shortly after.

Knies is the best player in the deal. Not sure why that is in question.

It's clear that most NHL GM's aren't buying into his model, or Potter wouldn't have fell to the bottom of the first round.

Knies>>>>>>>>>>>>Andersson regardless of retaining and a contract extension.

I think he was talking about Kadri.
And while Knies has more trade value than Kadri due to his age, Kadri is more valuable to a team that wants to win THIS YEAR, largely because he is a C.

I think so. I remember reading that other GMs were pissed because they felt they could have offered a better deal.

These Toronto rumours are coming out of the woodwork at the moment.
Here's another (bad) one from Toronto X Accounts, gained a decent amount of traction for obvious reasons.
OUT: Domi, Robertson, Carlo, 2nd (2027)
IN: Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri
"Identity-changing blockbuster trade that Craig Conroy definitely agrees to so no point arguing with me go leafs go".

Good ole fan-made quantity for quality trade proposals.
So they think we'll give up not one but both of our biggest trade chips without even acquiring a 1st?
I'll let them answer that question.

That wouldn't even get accepted in a video game be a GM mode.

And he’s no where near the kind of player who is a 1B in the regular season and then falls off in the playoffs. The guy is going to be a playoff difference maker for one lucky team.

So we take a massive downgrade from Andersson to Carlo (who we don't need)
And a massive downgrade from Kadri to Domi (who is 30 and we don't need).
And our reward for that is Robertson (who has no value to us) and a 2nd
Let's go!
Or... we could trade Andersson for roughly 1st + 2nd and trade Kadri for 1st + 2nd
So 2 1sts and 2 2nds (or equivalent) or Domi, Carlo, Robertson + 2nd
Hmm.
