How can they ask for a player that hasn't even been drafted yet? Even if he was they could ask but that's an automatic hangup.

Kyrou streaky as he is, is who I would try and snag. Flames need another right hand shot in the FW mix.
Is there a lefty D man they could snag too?. Don't think Fowler is the answer.
If I could I'd snag young center Alexandrov too.

I'm not sure which direction St.Louis is going- are they selling the farm, or are they still going for it? I guess if they sell Thomas, that means they are team tank.
Either way, I think I would rather deal with a team that's giving up futures-based assets. The Blues (If they wanted to deal young pieces) have a number of BEAUTIFUL prospects that would be a fantastic add: RW Justin Carbonneau, D Adam Jiricek, RW Adam Jecho, D Lukas Fischer, C/RW Dalibor Dvorsky, D Theo Lindstein, C Otto Stenberg, RW Simon Robertsson, D Colin Ralph, LW Ondrej Kos, C Zach Dean, and D Quinton Burns.

According to Blues fans on HF, the owner refuses to rebuild, so they will probably retool and sell the older guys and build around Thomas and anyone younger

Yeah, I think they could sell off guys like Schenn and Kyrou (seems like he needs a change of scenery) for younger guys and still contend. Thomas would be the true indicator that they are throwing in the towel.

Trade Blake Coleman (50% RS) to Carolina for Justin Poirier, 6th round pick 2026 and conditional 3rd round pick 2027 (will turn to 2nd round pick 2027 if Carolina advanced to eastern conference finals)
Lineup after trades
Huberdeau/Frost/Coronato
Zary/Kerins/Farabee
Honzek/Backlund/Tomasino
Lomberg/Sharangovich/Klapka
Bahl/Parekh
Kuznetsov/Weegar
Bean/Pachal

Despite their good start, I don't think Pittsburgh is interested at all in trading future picks for short-term adds.

Saw three dudes that very much gave hockey scout vibes. Didn’t see them react at all to much tonight. The one guy did chuckle at the Hanley attempt at a fight

I think he thought Foligno would go easy on him or something.
Whereas I think Foligno gave Joel exactly what he asked for.

That would be amazing.
But I don't think GM Nice Guy would contract a guy only to trade him.
At least that seems to be the consensus.

The 12 teams' scouts in attendance sure didn't see much tonight.

You trade Kadri for a haul, trade Frost, and suddenly Backlund is the only experienced NHL centre on the roster – though Kirkland kind of resembles an NHL centre in a dim light.
At that point you're not tearing down to the studs, you're playing Jenga with the studs themselves and hoping the roof doesn't crash on your head.

You're most likely right, but perhaps they might be looking to give Crosby and Malkin one more shot. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe their hot start will keep going, but it could be interesting if they're in a good spot come the TDL.

A Frost trade could signal no intent to trade Kadri this year.
Or is there a salary dump center somewhere?

You only trade frost if it’s a must take deal. Kadri Coleman Rasmus gotta go.

Centres are pretty scarce around the league right now. It used to be that most talented forwards played centre in junior and a lot of them got moved to the wing as pros. Now they're getting moved to the wing before they're even drafted, and NHL clubs don't have the option to develop them as centres.
From what I'm reading from around the league, there are teams where the #2 C is the weakest forward in the top 6. They'd all love to upgrade, but there aren't enough quality centres to go around, and even mediocre ones are at a premium.

Lol.
Well clearly if that gave that vibe they must have been scouts and you should extrapolate from there.
