He had 115 points tied for second in league scoring above Drai, Kaprisov, Mathews, Marner ect. and had multiple over PPG seasons. This wasn't a pro scout find. BT gave him the deal based on his stats...had he been a UFA he would have been in that range anyway. At that time he was a 9M+ player all day long and add the Calgary/not getting to UFA tax.

Montreal fans were talking about him the way Leaf fans talk about McDavid now. "Huberdeau is coming home, no need to trade for him" The biggest point drop in NHL history is not something you can just predict.

Robertson doesn't fit our contention window. It really makes no sense to acquire him.

His prime years would be wasted while we rebuild and try to draft/develop some centers. His ideal situation is being traded to a team ready to compete today.

Robertson is only two years older than Zary and will likely still be in his prime for another 5-6 years.. if you can add a premiere 26 year old winger, you do it no matter where you are at..

If Huberdeau were a UFA this past summer, I have no doubt he’d have found a 6yr deal @ 8.5M.

So having him at 10.5M, yeah he’s overpaid. But a “bum”? Fukc off.

Enough changes in 20 years to not get hung up about a stupid GM or a stupid head scout, but it would be fascinating to see how right and wrong each team was and how wildly different or the same each list is.

The details on the Huby contract/evaluation would be too soon as guys are likely still involved if they had input (although really, Treleving only had the one option once he traded for Huberdeau—to give him the Gaudreau contract).

I doubt Dallas would trade Robertson for Andersson but even if they did would Robertson sign long term in Calgary? Both of those scenarios don't seem very likely.

More like 4 years at $6.5M.

He's had 3 years in a row where he's averaged less than 60 points per season.

Now if he was doing that getting 2nd line minutes and 2nd PP duties, those would look pretty good.

But he's getting those numbers getting all the premium ice time. When your best players getting all that premium ice time get 60 or less points, you are at best a bubble team.

We are gonna be some pretty massive numbers for 55 point 25 goal players this summer IMO...I'm sure a lot of GMs also think he would do better in a different system too.

League asked for it when they didn't suspend Greer for punching a star player in the head. Tampa brought in the goon squad and was out for revenge. Mikkola got an assist but they later took the goal away because he had a misconduct at the time lol!

Yes, but those will be for 2nd or 3rd line players getting 2nd PP time.

Not players who get 55 points getting all the premium ice time.

And likely younger players with some upside, not a player who is more likely to regress.
