Again the list excludes anyone who has played even a single NHL game.
Really dumb.

3 of those players missed majority or all of their seasons last year.

Schaefer hasn't done squat yet to be the best of the U-23 grouping.

Man, I should apply to be a sports writer with this quality of thought analysis. I certainly could not do any worse.
Keep in mind, sportswriting is more about being a propagandist for the team/league/network than it is about having good takes.

The list is obviously designed to garner attention, right with Desnoyers at #2. Appears to be working.

Hilarious that Howard was basically never spoken of as a top prospect at any age until the Oilers acquired him and now he is a sure thing. Yep, Sportsnet for sure isn’t bought and paid for at all….. what an embarrassment.

Well that explains why there is a ton of players off the list.

It makes the list completely useless.

The thing to remember about sports writer jobs is that the only thing they are paid for is to get people to pay attention to them.

Yeah, what's the point of making of the list of the best under 23 year olds that have never played an NHL game? Most posters here consider a 22 year old who has never played a game to be a bust.

Oiler media bias lol...if Howard was in Tampa still he wouldnt even rank. The ridiculous rules were made to cherry pick and include him.

Honest question, if both Sportsnet and the Athletic doesn’t not do a fair job covering the Flames, who do you think does?

I consume as much hockey and Flames coverage as I can. Interested to know if you think there’s a particular source out there that does it more fair/accurate than most of the others.

I mean if this list was made by a forum poster here we would all have a good laugh and move on because it's that bad. I guess it's mission accomplished as clickbait but this isn't the type of stuff that brings credibility to the network covering the NHL in Canada.

These lists purposely get things wrong or make them controversial because they know it creates way more interaction. If the list was perfect what would people talk about? Social media does this all the time. They purposely put in a mistake to get the comments section going.

Exactly, they also purposely include prospects from the staple franchises in order to further push clicks.

Ike Howard is a prospect with potential similar to Marvel Gridin. None of us expect Gridin to be on this list, he is a very solid prospect but shouldn't sniff the top charts.

Zayne is literally the top offensive defenseman prospect league wide...this isn't exactly bias either, tons of prospect rankings have him there. Frustrating a bit to not see him there but like indicated above, contreversy pushes clicks.

I can't rule out that they are simply incompetent at their jobs.

Zayne isn't there because of the criteria which is any player that has even 1 NHL game is excluded. That's why others like Demidov, Leonard, Buium, Dickinson, etc are all not included.

The list is bad because the criteria is bad.

Stars, Leafs, and Lightning still pursuing Andersson

https://r.org/2025/09/26/source-star...mus-andersson/

Quote:
Another NHL source in Calgary confirmed that not only are the Flames still taking calls from teams on Andersson’s NHL trade availability, but also told R.org of three teams that are continuing to keep tabs on Andersson, who had 11 goals and 20 assists in 81 games last season.

“If there’s still one thing Jim [Nill] (Stars GM) still covets more than anything, it’s a top right-shot d-man. He is hell bent on that, and he’s been keeping tabs on Andersson since before the last trade deadline.”

Then you have the Leafs, the Lightning. …and I know you reported before, the Red Wings, Blue Jackets, and Bruins around the draft. I don’t know how much those teams are still pushing, but they all make a ton of sense, too.”

RG reported on June 25, amidst the traditional onslaught of NHL trade chatter leading into the NHL Entry Draft, that the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, and Ottawa Senators all had expressed NHL Trade interest in Andersson at the time. The Canadiens wound up acquiring their right-shot defenseman in Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders, and the Senators acquired right-shot defenseman Jordan Spence from the Los Angeles Kings.

It was also widely reported that the Vegas Golden Knights and the Flames had a deal in place for Andersson this past offseason, but it fell through. When asked about the Knights now, this source could not confirm if talks on Andersson had reignited with the Flames.

“They definitely did, but I’m not sure if they’ve circled back since then, but it would make sense considering what the Knights’ right side looks like right now,” the second source told R.org on Thursday night.
