I wonder if they would be open to trading Jack Quinn because of this? Injury troubles have slowed his growth, but I think he still has star potential.

Bourque really hasn't been given very good ice time with Dallas. I'm not sure we know what he is.

Yeah I like Quinn too. Already he’s reasonably productive and I think he has a couple steps still to come
But the issues remains…what do you trade them

Very true, but I wonder if they would be looking to upgrade the D in their pipeline- they are looking to trade Byram, and Radim Mrtka might be the only rearguard in their system with top-2 potential. Even still, I’m not sure I would be willing to trade Mews, Brzustewicz, or Morin for anything that the Sabres have…

Nobody who gets traded at 22 or 23 is an entirely known quantity. Doesn’t mean you can’t know their trade value.

Agreed. But we know he can produce at the AHL level, but he hasn’t had the opportunity to produce at the NHL level. Not because he hasn’t grabbed a spot, there was simply no room available to him.

Looks like the Habs had an offer and rejected a trade for the Price contract. The team wanted a 2nd to take on the contract.

We should pick up price and use him as a 3rd goalie on the roster to coach Wolf.

There’s about a 0% chance he comes to Calgary if they acquire his contract. He doesn’t even live anywhere near Montreal anymore.

It would just be the cap hit, in the article it mentioned the only way he would reject a trade of his contract, is for tax reasons. Considering he is in Montreal and they have one of the higher tax rates, I don't think he would stop any trade. For the record the teams mentioned in the mix were SJ, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. I guess the question is would you do it for a 3rd, because I think that is what Hughes is holding out for.

I'd only do it for a 2nd rounder as a sweetener, or Montreal can pound sand and keep that contract.

$2m in real cash for a 3rd? I don't see why any team would do that, but perhaps. Doubt Calgary would after Montreal fleeced them on the Monahan deal (even if it was the previous GM).

- Chatting with Flames captain Mikael Backlund in Milan 10 days ago, it is clear he is confident he will be sticking around Calgary after his current contract expires. There’s work to be done, but an extension, at some point, seems expected.
- Also on the Flames, I’m told contract talks with restricted free agent youngster Connor Zary are “getting closer” on a three-year deal, but there is still work to be done.

It is a bit of a weird trade as it is straight up cash for picks. Puckpedia pick calculator for cap relief says 2M is worth 2nd round 20th pick. I think that sounds about right because the Canadiens want him off the roster so they can accumulate cap space. Only a few teams can provide that to them.
