They'd have likely hedged this amount, bought some forward contracts, bought current USD, etc. when it started to turn. It is likely costing them more than at par, but John Bean, Ken Zaba and the rest would have planned for the variance.

The owners would be raking in money on a cap team too, since players aren't paid in the playoffs.

For non-club lower bowl STH cost is about $140 per ticket based on 41 regular season games, but the face value varies depending on day of the week and who is playing: $167 to $232. Over the season, the total cost works out to 70% of the total door price, so STH cost is $117 to $162. Playoff tickets work out to $193 for Round 1 and $225 for Round 2. So Round 1 tix are 20% over the cost of a premium regular season game, 40% for Round 2. Reasonable differential, IMHO.

when my playoff renewal came out, signed up as soon as I could. Would be happy to pay $1800 to watch at least two rounds of playoff hockey.

Just to clarify what FV was for green this year- $59 was the non-premium game price. However only about half of the home games were non-premium. And there were 3 premium price levels depending on demand for the game.
What I find odd about the game pack holder price is there should be some consideration for people who backed the team during the regular season. While I have season tickets, I share them with several friends; essentially giving myself game packs.
The only thing I can think of it that maybe they are priced to a point where they are hoping not all GP holders will buy playoff tickets. There are 5 GPs sharing a single seat, yet they are offering 1/2 of the playoff games.

My game pack is in the "greens" which works out to $49.54/seat/game. Because of seniority, etc. they can't guarantee the same level of seat for the playoffs. Fair enough - this is only my second season with a game pack.
So they're offering me press level seats, but at a cost of $92.75/seat/game. These are $25 seats in the regular season in a game pack. I was expecting to pay more than the regular season, but that's near double what I pay for greens, and nearly quadruple what the game pack price is for press level seats in the regular season.
I get it - there is increased demand for playoffs and I would expect a ticket increase. But 400%?
Sorry Flames, I love you and all, but eff that. Nearly $100 for a nosebleed seat?
Unless I'm missing something here. The offer clearly states that it is for rounds 1 and 2, and there is a split for game pack holders, so you only get 2 of the 4 possible home games per round. And my invoice is for $742 for 2 seats. For 4 games. In the nosebleeds.
|
I would much rather your offer than mine... I have a green level ticket pack but have been a holder long enough they're offering me a similar seat averaging $133/ticket/game. I'm not really sure why they think someone who can afford $50/ticket/game can all of a sudden afford more than double that, but there it is. Part of the reason I was a game pack holder was so that I could get playoff tickets but they have priced me out so perhaps I should cancel my game pack.

I wouldn't mind 20% over premium... I cannot pay 150% of what I had been paying though. That's ridiculous of them to even ask.

Not to be a math Nazi because we are arguing the same point, but the greens are actually 260% the cost of a regular season game pack ticket, and the press levels are 371%. I understand that the game packs are discounted, premium games, etc. but that's still a hefty increase.
One thing to consider when budgeting, however, is that the odds of getting a "home game D" is quite unlikely. It would require the Flames having home ice advantage AND going to game 7 in that series. Each game back holders gets an A/C split for one round and a B/D split for the other included.
Realistically, it is unlikely that the Flames will be a higher seed in the playoffs and home ice advantage is a long shot. While this doesn't change the price per game, there is a very good chance that you'll be getting refunded/credited for one game even if the flames advance past the second round.
Despite being caught off guard by the magnitude of the increase, I'll still be renewing. It just leaves a bit of a bad taste.

Yes, but the other thing to consider when budgeting is how much money do I have NOW? That's great that they'll offer me a refund or it can go towards next year's tickets but I don't have over $1000 to spend NOW on 4 games we probably won't even play having just returned from holidays. There is no 'pay as you play' option for game pack holders... I can pay in one lump sum or in two payments but either way, I have to pay the full amount and I have to pay it within the next few weeks.

I'm a game pack holder as well and opted to get the playoff tickets largely based on this. There's almost no way the Flames will get home ice advantage, so as you said there's one game gone already.
Then they have to make the second round. If they don't ,then there's another one or two games gone depending on which configuration of games you get.
Realistically I'm hoping for four games but it's more likely I'll get to go to one or maybe two.

If you can't afford to go to all the playoff games, sell half of them on the ticket exchange. You can probably break even in playoffs.

I fully agree with you. Even the two payment option requires the payments to be on April 3rd and April 15th, which doesn't give a lot of time to sort things out.
They let me spread my game pack cost out over 9 months if I want to, so it would be nice if they'd let you break the playoff costs into a few more bite-sized chunks. Especially considering the cost of the playoffs is more than the game pack itself (for the same level of seats).

Just an update...my ticket rep seemed pretty surprised when he called me back Friday...I told him the way they were charging me made my $90 tickets $242 in the playoffs and he seemed to think they should be $120. So it appears something got doubled up somewhere along the way.
He excused himself and said he would call me back but I haven't heard from him yet.

I know but on the year as a whole, playoffs with this payroll would be good for them and totally unexpected
honestly though its gonna take a good finish for them to get in

I had emailed my ticket rep on Friday to confirm this as well and haven't heard anything back.
Lets hope they made a mistake!

Nope not a mistake apparently, the only thing he mentioned was first round was $242 was an average per game for the first two rounds.
$223.50 for the first and $261 for the second.
The one good thing is all tickets are fully refundable if the game isn't played....if I pay the cash and no playoffs, I get my money back...lose in the first round get the second round cash back etc.
So, I have a good feeling that I can sell what I would use so I will likely buy them.

Stub hub require an actual barcode? Have bar codes already been created for these tickets?
