Murray at Grand Car Audio.

He inspected my current faulty starter, at no charge.

I am booked to get a new one installed, for a very fair price.

Not sure it matters. I've had some installed and every place has done a good job. I'd definitely go for one of those starters that uses the app to start your car. How cool is that. I'm in Mexico this winter and it's -30 back home so I start my car and run it for 15 minutes then turn it off.

Auto Temp in Douglasdale installed mine in November. Wasn't cheap but they did a good job. FWIW I bought a two-way one with a little pic of my car that shows exhaust coming out when it's running. Sooooo cool.

Mobile Sounds. Best price I could find after a lot of shopping. Very professional install. Very happy with the service.

Holy smokes, was just looking at the Car Starter App, and it is $300 just to add the "system" to your car if you already have a car starter. If you have no starter (in my case) it would run $500, plus I assume install which is another $200-300.

That's a bit much. I only own a Chevy Cobalt haha.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. My dad wants to go to Northland Bestbuy as he heard they were the best, but my friend said it would take like a month and a half to get an appointment, so I wanted to shop around and see if I could do it sooner.

Dont cheap out on the product.

This is one case where you almost always get what you pay for. I think we paid $400 for my wifes about 3 years ago and it has been flawless. My mom who got a cheaper model installed at Visions at about the same time has had to get hers fixed a few times.

The system I got is good, one of the higher level models. I think 1 below the top level.

The app system though is pushing $700 installed though. That's a lot.

I can't say how much you need to have a 2-way system.

On occasion, I have to use the backup fob (1 way) and its a pain not know if it actually started or locked. Love the confirmation when I'm able to start it from blocks away

It's the nustart 4502. 2 way system, no alarm but I don't need it.

You have one, yet you can somehow install more than one with one.

And why do you need more than one car starter for one car?

That's not the opposite experience; it's similar. I said they were expensive and being small is irrelevant.

Anyway, don't go to Best Buy - they are a joke. They couldn't handle installing a deck into my Expedition which is about as basic as it gets. After bringing it back three times (Northland location) I finally just installed it myself. Those guys are generally hopeless and do subpar work. Same with Future Shop.

I've finally come to a point where I don't mind paying more to get it done right the first time. AutoTemp is the best of the worst IMO, and I've had stuff installed pretty much everywhere in town.

Hey don't you have to pay a monthly fee for that as well? I looked into it last month and the price seems crazy.

i have had a couple of friends who have installed remote car starters and shortly after thier vehicles had issues with starting, occasionally dying out etc. Obviously a small sample group but it made me think a little harder about getting one on my truck. In both cases the remotes had to be removed and other units installed.

i guess I'd want to be clear with the shop with respect to how any post install issues will be dealt with. alos if applicable you might want to see if there is any warranty implications.

you might want to also ask if there is a remote system that works better for your year and make of car.

I should note that in my previous truck (96 explorer) i had a remote/alarms system (python) and it worked flawlessly for several years.
