Default Blackfoot Trail during rush hour?

Hi everyone,

Just looking for your friendly advice I am going to be doing a small job (I.T.) for the City of Calgary and I am going to be at Spiller Road (I believe) I am going from New Brighton. I was thinking of taking Blackfoot Trail to and from work starting from Southland / Blackfoot junction to highfield road or Ogden etc.....any ideas what Blackfoot is like North and South bound during rush hour? Thanks alot for any tips.

It moves pretty good both directions during the rush. Sometimes southbound gets a little bogged down between 58th ave and 42nd ave, but other than that its fine.

The Deerfoot portion can really suck by 130th sometimes. I have a buddy who works at Manchester and lives in McKenzie Towne and takes Ogden Road to work. Says it's a slower speed limit but doesn't get bogged down as much as the other routes.

The worst part of that trip for me (I come from MacKenzie Towne) is the wait on Deerfoot, it is much worse than Blackfoot. I take Ogden Rd.

What path do you take to get to it? Barlow? Through Quarry Park? Up 52nd?

Thanks you guys, you rock! Reading some of your posts I wonder if I should avoid deerfoot trail all together & access barlow trail off of 52nd street.......what do you think?

Where are you coming from?

Deerfoot north in the morning is rough between Barlow and Southland between 7 and 8am. If you are coming north on Deerfoot and exiting on Barlow, I don't expect you would face any issues unless they were related to weather, accident etc.

If Barlow is super bad once you get on it, you can turn left at the casino and then take 24th St straight through and it comes back out on Shepard Rd just south of Glenmore. This also works coming home if you know via radio etc that Barlow is bad (which it can be if Deerfoot is also very bad).

It is actually quite humorous to me, because my parents live on Ogden Road and always complained about the traffic from "Mackenzie People" cutting through Ogden going to downtown. I didn't realize how beneficial it was to take the route if for no other reason to avoid Deerfoot, until I moved here myself and started working downtown.
