Pretty disgusting. And I love bacon. I would be interested in knowing if any Canadian pork producers use this practice.

most people need to wake the hell up when it comes to their food. whether it's vegetables, fruit or meats, we all need to be aware of where it comes from and how it was grown. this needs to be a grassroots movement, and not wait for the government to act for us.

One of the reasons I am so proud my husband decided to give up eating all pig products over a year ago (and how he loved his bacon). (His story was that he met and fell for a pig on the RASTA farm animal sanctuary in De Winton. Yup, Rocky, the pig. Very intelligent, very affectionate). It is too easy to ignore the production methods when a cheap product is the result. The only way there will ever be a change is more awareness and people taking the trouble to view the footage and then making an informed and compassionate decision.
Vegetarian now for 33 years.

Just animal abuse from start to finish. Pigs kept in stalls so small they can't even turn round. You really should watch it, if you can. Power comes through knowledge.

Ok this is where I call B.S. on you Ol' Cheesy. If you are such a staunch atheist then how can you claim a moral position on this? Aren't pigs just a randomly evolved blob of organic matter? If there's no such thing as a soul, a creator, or right or wrong and all that--why do you care how these blobs of randomly generated matter are treated? I think you are a confused little feller who has a lot to figure out.

I am a staunch Atheist, and I find it incredibly disturbing as well. Some of us do not need a book of fairy tales to give us moral guidance, or to tell us what is right or wrong.

I'm not religious. What do you base your morality on... society, culture, celebrities?
Bacon is delish.

how about common sense? i don't need to base my morality on anything to see that video is sick and wrong. pigs don't need a soul to feel pain, or to go insane from extreme confinement. frankly you bringing in a religious argument to this thread is just plain stupid, i think that you're the confused little feller

I agree ... but unlike Suzles, I am not about to give up eating meat.
Given that, what are my choices? Any producer, of any product, is going to try to maximize profit because the average consumer wont pay a slightly higher price when a cheaper product is right beside it on the shelf. So, how do I know that the next meat producer is any different?
What producer's bacon do you buy? Why?

There are two options discussed here: - quickly killing a 'happy' and healthy animal to eat it
- confining an animal to such a small space that it becomes extremely unhealthy and mentallly insane
Surely, you can see the difference, no???

I'm sure if you went to a farmer's market, or sunterra, you could find "free range" bacon.
Give me a break, that stuff is huge right now, it's pretty easy to find. Also, if you want to know information about a producer i'm sure you could use your google machine.

What an odd post. You make it sound as if the only difference between singing in harmony on a hilltop and stomping kittens is a belief in a higher power. Atheists can't care about animal abuse? I'm not certain you totally understand atheism.

I only watched about half the video. I am definitely never going to stop eating meat, but...
I would never eat a product from this company. Or any other company if I found out they were all like this. We have enough land on this continent that we can let all the livestock free range, have proper care taken of them, and then we can all feel better about the food we eat.
I'm very against PETA because I dislike some of the spin and stigma they have, however, I am very much a supporter of animal rights. But like any other normal person I am somewhere in the grey area between "I LOVE MEAT MORE THAN I LOVE MY OWN CHILDREN" and "ANIMALS ARE SPECIAL AND MADE FROM RAINBOW DUST"

You know dude, I'm usually the first one to call Cheese out when I think he's being a jerk about religion, or being inconsistent on something, but I gotta say, you're way off base on this one.
Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't mean you can't feel compassion towards animals. Cheese is an athiest, but does that mean he thinks it's okay to kill people? Of course not, and I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't call him out on that. Why is it different if he extends that belief to other animals?
Religion is not a requirement for morality.

Nothing wrong with eating meat, nothing at all. But there is a wrong way to treat creatures that feel pain just as we do. Decent treatment with a swift and humane end, nothing wrong with that either.
Would be nice if people did a bit of research, our money being spent in the right places would change the industry.
