I have seen the film, and it deserves the R rating which is hard to get in Alberta. This is not like Saw, this movie is R for a reason. As you can read below.

Sin City is the most exact adaptation of a comic book ever put on film.

Sin City has more severed heads, dismemberments and acts of cannibalism than The Silence of the Lambs and Freddy Vs. Jason put together.

Sin City, an exquisitely made, unbearably faddish movie that will strike joy into the hearts of all who revere amputation and apocalypse, opens with a swoony love scene culminating in a murder for the heck of it. From there it moves smartly to the promise of child molestation and, with the culprit having had both his face and his balls shot off by Bruce Willis, steams merrily along toward cannibalism, electrocution and the mounting of severed female heads on walls.........

I can't wait to see this movie. I didn't know much about it (other than it looked cool) until yesterday when I actually read up on it a bit.

Looks awesome. But Saw was rated R for a reason too, IMO. Why do you say that Sin City deserves an R, unlike Saw? Is it just that much more graphic?

There is a part about a guy who likes kids and screaming to much.... That all I will say. Nothing is shown but it is very suggestive.

Sin City is 18A in BC with a warning of Frequent Gory Violence

There hasnt been too many Canadian R rated movies in BC in the theatres. Last one I can remember was the re-release of Inside Deep Throat. But the only "big" movie that I can remember was Crash, and by movie standards, that wasnt that big a movie.

Man, if Sin City had come out 8 or 9 years ago and I lived in Calgary, I would be sooo p*ssed. I used to get my brother to get me in, or I would get someone to pretend to be the guardian over 18, but with the R rating, no one over 18 is permitted even with a parent or guardian. Man, that sucks

That review was garbage. Anyone who thinks this movie is too violent is a little wuss. The violence is so over the top that it isn't meant to be taken seriously. To call this movie faddish does it no justice. It is highly creative and it is gonna change the way movies are made in the future. Hollywood needs a kick in the ass so it starts taking more risks and making fresh and innovative movies like Sin City. Unfortunately we are probably gonna see a lot of cheap copycats like what happened with The Matrix but nothing is gonna touch this one for a while that I can see. I can't really recall the last time a movie ended and the theatre was buzzing with chatter about what they had just seen. My favourite performances were definitely Mickey Rourke and Elijah Wood but Stahl, Del toro and Clive Owen were excellent as well. I'll be seeing it again very soon.

I agree with you for the most part, but what about Bruce Willis? I thought it was his best performance in a while.

And what was up with Benicio's nose? Crazy make-up job, I think.

I just got home from watching it... it was a very interesting movie...

and I totally believe the R rating is more than justified. Its guaranteed to screw kids up... its very, very weird.

This is ridiculous. My friend, a 4th year University student, left her ID in the wrong pocket and they didn't let her into Sin City.

I really have no sympathy for people who complain about getting their ID checked or being refused entry for no ID. I was ID'ed this year and I'm 31. ID is a fact of life.

The Restricted R rating in Alberta. You will be very surprised in some of the stuff they do.

I don't know. I wasn't all that shocked by anything that happened in that movie. Sure, some of it was pretty raunchy, but I didn't think it was too terrible.

Maybe I had just heard so much about this movie that I was expecting something so ridiculously over-the-top. However, I think if you went into the movie not knowing anything about it, you may be a little thrown off.

Oh well, it certainly wasn't too much for me to handle, but I remarked before the movie why Famous Players was going to such the trouble to say that its rated R and what not, and well, at the end I understood, though I had no problem with it.

I just saw it last night....First off......I loved it....thought it was awesome

As far as the violence and rating is concerned. I felt the violence was just like Kill Bill vol1 in the sense, that it was over the top and very cartoonish and . The only part that was bad was what WIllis did the Yellow bas**rd near the end. The was pretty bad. But as far as the Canadian R, I think that is a little harsh. 18A is what it should be everywhere.

But...what a movie!!!!!!

It was rather cartoonish... but its the combination of violence, nudity, coarse language, morbidity and fact that it looks like from the previews on TV that it might not be that graphic. Hence the R rating. Take away one or two of those, and it probably gets the 18A. Frankly, it was the castration scene that gave them the R... that and the Pez dispenser bit (that was supposedly the part Tarantino did).

I mean, I loved the movie, I thought it was really well done, and magnificently casted, especially Clive Owen and the bit part Josh Hartnett played.

Tarantino did the scene in the car with Del Toro and his groovy new head gear. The scene when Dwight is imagining things while he is driving up to "the pits"

I don't understadn the need for an R rating anyways. If I want my kids to see the movie and feel they are up to it I should be able to bring them with me. I don't need someone telling me that I don't even have the option to bring them with me to see it.

Thats a whole different argument, but I totally agree with you.
