Default Kelowna Colts first SHUTOUT!!!

hey cp

I'm pretty stoked.... my mens hockey team got our first shutout tonight... and since I'm the goalie that's just freakin' sweet... first goose egg ever!!!

We are in Kelowna, BC and usually play out of the CNC Arena - but tonight was special - our first time ever playing at Prospera Place - home of the Kelowna Rockets (who i particularly don't like after they beat the Hitmen last night )

It was weird playing in an arena that holds around 6000 people... which was primarily empty... I guess that's how the thrashers feel... ouch!

A huge THANK YOU to Mustache - for being willing to come out on a night where the roads were glare ice and take pics of the game - much appreciated buddy!!

So here's some pics of our evening....

Colts get an early lead on The Pillies.... yea... like the beer... silly guys for Sask!

Me 'limbering up" before the second period

A little action at my end of the ice...

The Colts continue to apply pressure - building the lead!

Me laughing with The Pillies keeper in the second "intermission"

Time to get focused for the final frame

This guy pats me on the helmet after getting in on a break (i think he came out of the box and was behind all my d-men). I was slapping my stick on the ice, the shaft of my stick broke but i still managed to make the save!

Ricky_from_the_park lights it up!!!!

I'm not quite sure how this didn't go in - I stopped the shot on the goal line and then just laid on top of it!!

With about 5 minutes left in the third, my guys decide to give The Pillies a breakaway... this guy was totally clear of my d-men around center ice. He had me beat but somehow I got my stick on the puck and knocked it off his stick.

So after the breakaway i HAD to ask my d-man what that was all about. He says while laughing at me, "You've got to earn your shutout!" Ha! Ha!

Ricky_from_the_park snaps off another shot. I don't think this one went in but I'm pretty sure he ended the night with 2 goals!!

Come on... you know the tune.... "It's the final countdown..."

I was soooooooo going to do the Karlsson 'kung-fu panda' chop thing - but I forgot - ha! ha! I was just elated with the shutout!!!

And here is the game puck... already etched and ready for my games room! Ha! Ha!

Thanks for taking time for checking out the pics!

Back when I used to play in PG, my team was one of the worst in the Division, and a few times we'd hit the wrong shift rotation so we'd only have 6 players type of thing against the top teams when their guys were all around. So we took our share of 10-1 type beatings, but in about 8 of those games I was the guy who got our lone goal, and often would get it with 2 or 3 minutes left in the game. Made for a good reason to stick around and drink a few after the game because we felt good about not getting shut out.

this is our second year in the league. last year started off just brutal!!! i think we only won 2 games before christmas - but it was weird - in january we totally gelled - and just played so much better as a team. we finished right around 500 at the end of the season and then went on a tear in the playoffs - making it all the way to the finals... but we lost .

i've had a couple of games this season where i've only let in 1 goal.... both times they were deflected past me by my d-men - oh well.

the last period was really getting on my nerves... i didn't want to blow it and then my d-men had a few breakdowns - ha! ha!

i guess i'm finally starting to live up to my nick name....
