Default Pirates 4 - On Stranger Tides

The trailer is out a few days ago:

I was thinking to put it in the movie thread, but I think this is big enough of a movie to have its own.

First of all I think it looks better than Pirates 2 and 3, no Orlando Bloom, but sadly no Kiera Knightley (she was hot but rather annoying), however there is Penelope Cruz. Ian McShane as Blackbeard looks really good, Geoff Rush should have a bigger role which is good in my books.

Comes out on my birthday, May 20 so still got 5 months wait.

Ian McShane made Deadwood what it was. I hope he can somehow replicate his performance on there, into Blackbeard.

Hard to say how it will fare, but Bruckheimer is pretty good for entertainment. Comes out on my birthday too!

It looks pretty good. I'll likely spend some $$ to see it in the theatre.

This movie doesn't come out on my birthday, but hopefully it's good. I really only truely liked the first one, the 2nd and 3rd well all kinds of "meh" for me.

Never understood the appeal of these Pirate movies. Overrated beyond belief.

I honestly thought you meant the other Pirates.

I was like "they're already up to 4?".

So true, another bloated franchise. The first one was okay, but honestly I fell asleep in the theatre. The movies are a tad bit long, for the type of movies they are.

Never saw the third one, after I couldn't finish the second one. Too much stuff happening, when I didn't really give a crap about anyone (or anything) in the movie. Once they started doing a sword fight on a spinning ball for like 30 minutes I gave up. Geoffrey Rush, and Depp to an extent are the only two people even worth watching.

As for the trailer, it just seems to me that they are just throwing a whole bunch of crap at the wall, and hope something sticks. Mermaids? Check, Zombies? Got 'em. Fountatin of Youth? Not sure what that has to do with pirates, but okay, Blackbeard? Well it's the forth movie so we better have Blackbeard (and yes I like McShane too)! Cruz also seems to be horribly miscast in my opinion. However, family friendly movies are all the rage these days, and people will line up to see Depp chew up the scenery.

I doubt it's even much better than a movie like Prince of Persia, but it will make close to a billion dollars when all is said and done.

Btw, is it just me or are there a crap load of blockbusters coming out next year? All sequels of course. Might have to look into it...

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell was going on in the third one. Never thought a pirate movie would be so hard to follow.

Justin freaking Bieber is getting his own movie? Seriously, what is this world coming to? I'm pretty sure that's one of the seven signs of the apocalypse.

I like these movies. They make perfect sense in the context of the Pirate world. Yes there are a lot of plot lines, but it keeps someone like me with borderline ADD interested.

I think Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom have had their story lines expire. I don't know if I like the addition of Penelope Cruz. I think she is more annoying than Keira Knightley, but I do love the accent.

Penelope Cruz >>>>> Kiera Knightly

I'll shell out the bucks for this one.

Yeah sword fights always kill the mood for me too.

I think these pirate movies appeal to people who would secretly like to cross-dress. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The long hair, puffy outfits, eyeliner and mildly effeminate affectations of the protagonist, it's got the full kit.

So then District 9 appeals to people who want to kill humans and eat cat food?

I watched the first Pirates movie last night and thought it was pretty good.

I think the first movie was about a perfect as you could get for the franchise. I can rewatch it anytime, but the two sequels just didn't work for me.
