Thumbs up Howard Stern stays on Sirius

I know there's many Stern listeners on this board. Earlier this morning he announced he has signed on with Sirius/XM for another 5 years, in addition the program will now be available on mobile applications. Good news if you ask me.

More info here.

I'm not surprised, but I was kinda hoping he would get into internet broadcasting. He's the guy who could really push podcasting into the mainstream and make it very profitable.

It'll be interesting to see how his schedule changes too.

Awesome!! I will keep my subscription based largely on this, and the recent merger of Sirius and XM in Canada...which hopefully means NHL again.

Surprising - Now if only Artie could get well and come back (and stay well..)

Any idea when that's going through?

^well the deal was reached about 2 weeks ago, so I expect that early in the New Year we'll see the joint programming options like they have in the US. I hope so anyway!

I listen everyday but have been enjoying the show less and less. Lange was the funniest person on mic and it seems like he's not coming back, I just wish they would bring in a comic fulltime or even someone different a few times a week. Howard is a grumpy old man bordering on senile and Robin is ridiculous, unbearable and untalented.

Still the best thing on radio by a long shot along with O&A.

I don't listen to either Howard Stern (have XM) or O&A but I've been enjoying Jason Ellis on Faction lately. Probably because an Aussie accent just makes everything cooler.

I am an XM subscriber, and have never listened to his show.

How does it compare to O&A?

Me too. IMO the show's been way better without Artie Lange who IMO is overrated as a comedian. I can't believe he's a headliner as his standup is very average at best and terrible at worst. He was really bringing the show down with his tantrums, tardiness, and he was getting pretty bitter at the end when he could stay awake.

Good thing for Sirius that they re-signed him as I would have likely cancelled my subscription as the NFL radio alone isn't enough to warrant me keeping the service.

Best radio show ever if you are a man's man and can handle the crudness.

I have Sirius + Best of XM - I only got the mixed package (greymarket, of course) because of NHL Home Ice and the hockey. What's irritating on Sirius is the limited play-by-play channels and the majority of them seem to be NBA games now so if one is thinking (when the merger happens) of switching to Best of XM, you might want to rethink it since I rarely get to hear the games I want anymore.

I agree. I have been an Ellis listener for over 4 years now. I am on my third STiletto so i can record the show everyday. I think another 3 or 4 years and he will be able to compete with the O&A and STern's. Just think how good the show is right now and then think that Sirius doesn't even give these guys a budget. Once they put some money behind Ellis he will grow and start to become a lot more professional.

I guess I will keep my sat radio for 5 more years. Was getting ready to get rid of it, don't listen to one second of anything else on Sirius. Awesome news!

There's a reason why Ellis is the future of radio. The guy has blown O&A and new school Stern out of the water.

Ellis is good, and i'll probably listen to him when howard is gone. but at this point, the replay of the stern show is better than ellis, as good as he is.

Good to hear Stern is staying, if he left I think a large piece of Satellite radio audiences would have too but I still think Opie and Anthony are more entertaining IMO.

I used to listen to Ellis all of the time, but got tired of the "Frat boy gets a radio show" shtick in a hurry. For every interesting minute of the show, there are 20 minutes of him talking about dropping a load on your wife's face. It was funny once, but is stupid after the 40,000th time.

he's come a long way since then. Now when people phone in and actually get through, the second they mention dropping loads he hangs up. He has matured greatly. You should give him a second chance
