Default Hot Tub Chemical Question

So I started out knowing very about hot tubs and hot tub maintenance, but i've slowly got pretty knowledgeable and am quite good at keeping my hot tub at the proper PH and Bromine levels, but something has gone south lately and I'm at a complete loss as to why.....

The last couple of weeks when I test my levels, i'm getting a zero bromine level (water doesn't turn yellow at all when I had the drops from the test kit). So I dump some bromine in, and test and it appears fine again. When I test it again in a week, the level is back to zero regardless of how much I dump in.

This has never happened to me before and i'm baffled? Anyone know any possible reason why this is, or have any suggestions. I have the floating bromine dispenser so you would think it would never be at a zero level........

No idea what any of that stuff is, but are you sure whatever drops you are using haven't been contaminated by something else?

Nope, I went and bought a new tester kit just to make sure. I read a pretty good question on yahoo answers saying that i probably need to add a boat load of it to get a base going.

Yes I have tablets in the floater. I shock every couple of weeks. I think my problem is when I changed the water a month ago I didn't add enough bromine to get a base going, atleast i'm hoping.

I would drop a couple of tablets in the filter for now to get it up. Shock every couple of weeks sounds like too little IMO. I used to do a little bit after every use and then every week or so.
