Default Canadian Pacific (the other CP) Holiday Train

Did anyone else get out to see this today? I took my 2-year old son and my wife to see it and the kid loved it - running in the snow + trains = happy kid. I am ashamed to admit I remember the words to all the songs the Odds played (that I could hear). We got a chance to climb up onto the locomotive for photos. I didn't know about this train until I heard about it on youtube. What a great way to spend an evening with a ton of kids around!

It's in Cochrane, Canmore, and Banff tomorrow afternoon for those who missed it here and want to see it.

Darn - missed it. That sounds fun though. I'll have to put it on the list for next year.

I also asked one of the CP police officers when they're leaving Calgary today. He told me that they're supposed to arrive in Cochrane at 2, so I'd assume they're going to be going through Calgary (the line behind 10 Ave, along the river, through Edworthy, Bowness, the railyard along Bearspaw, etc) between 12 and 2.

I didn't even really notice the trains until my kid started pointing them out at Edworthy. Now I can't help but hear them!

Its not the same during the day. It was down here in the QC back in 2008 at night, and it was great. This year it was here at 2PM and it was pretty disappointing after seeing it all lit up.

I saw it rolling through downtown just around 1:45 this afternoon.

It definitely looks better at night. My wife and I used to have a Christmas tradition of driving out to Banff for dinner and then going to see the Holiday Train. It's really something seeing that thing come in all lit up in the snow, with the whistle echoing off the mountains - it kind of gives you the chills. They put on a pretty decent show too - definitely worth taking the whole family out to see if you get the chance.

Very classy for CP to keep this thing going. They have been doing this since 1999 and in that time have collected over 4.8 million in donations and 2.3 million pounds of food, all handed over to local food banks.
