It's a new how to hold a mega cheap wedding but get a kick ass gift haul strategy that a lot of couples employ now days. Often with one having been married before, and the other being married for the first time. They stage the wedding on a day where only crazy folk will actually show up keeping the number of guests and total cost to them to a minimum. But they still send out numerous invitations in hopes they can guilt non-attendees into getting them a gift. Essentially you pay for a 20 person wedding, but haul in the gifts like it's a 200 person wedding.
This of course is nothing more than my own made up B.S.
