New Radiator
Ok CP,
Apparrently my car needs a new radiator. I don't know a lot about cars or the costs of repairs, and I have it quoted at around $1000 for the radiator plus labour, a flush and a new thermostat. Is this about right? does anyone know where this can be done for cheaper?

call any dealership and ask the price of a radiator for XXX car. They will tell you the price, and then you can decide if the labour to install is worth it.
That's the expensive option. You could find new and used radiators cheaper than a dealer, but if you don't want to do it yourself, you're kind of out of luck.

Skip the stealerships and call Parts Source or Auto Value. The rad for most cars is $400-500. You should be able to get it installed for 2 hours labour ($150-200).
I wouldnt get a rad at pick your nuts, if its been sitting for a while it might not pressurize and leak.

this is all at crappy tire. says the radiator itslef is only about 200, plus another 250 labour and the hoses and clamps and thermostat and all that BS. I know im going to get screwed pretty much anywhere I go, im just wondering if theres a place to be screwed less.

I dont see how hoses and clamps add up to $550, with the thermostat its literally $50 in materials. I can't stress this enough, don't go to crappy tire for anything automotive.

So where do people recommend I go? If I'm going to be paying I might as well get a new one.

What kind of car? If it's a Gullwing Mercedes, it might be a bit more than a Civic, you know.

Thats the sign of a decent mechanic. Not upselling a bunch of nonsense work you really dont need.

I'd take it to a Ford dealership and get a quote. Unfortunately the mechanics I'd recommend don't specialize in Fords.
None of my vehicles go within 50 ft of the Canadian Tire shop.

Sounds like they are taking measures for the future when they decide to do a thermostat.
I just had a timing belt done on one of my cars and they suggested doing the water pump. I was looking at just over a grand for the belt and a couple more hundred to replace a part that was working fine. With that being said a large part of the $$$ was for labor and if the water pump broke I would be spending another grand.
Instead of just fixing the rad and having the thermostat bust down the road I would suggest killing 2 birds with 1 stone and have the thermostat done while they are right there.
