The Gift Thread
Yeah yeah it's that time of year again, well almost.
I'm doing my best to get a jump on Christmas shopping, taking advantage of some online deals and hooking free shipping when applicable. I don't like online shopping as I hate waiting for my purchases to arrive. However I have enough time to not worry about a delay of a day or two.
That said, I'm stuck on gift ideas for my parents and my girlfriend's parents. Like most parents they have just about everything. So after no success in coming up with any gift ideas I thought I'd give ole CP a try.
In return I'll give a few gift ideas of my own:
My 3 year old Goddaughter is going to get a hardcover of Dr. Seuss stories, for a toddler I think it'd be a great tool to help her start to read
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia volume one is going to a close friend of mine and my brother (plus their respective significant others). It's funny and humour they'd love. I find TV on DVD is a great gift if they're of a generation where they know how to use a DVD/blu-ray player.
So, parents? Thoughts?

What's the budget we're working with?
I bought my mom an e-book reader. Do your parents like to read?

As I just posted in the Dell Thread I am looking at getting my mom an external hard drive so we don't have to worry about her accidentally deleting stuff (again.)

I bought my mom a digital picture frame for her birthday and she loves it. Both my parents are technologically literate enough to operate it, depending on the person this might not be the case.

Depending on your budget, here are some ideas:
- Gift certificate for dinner for two at their favourite restaurant
- Photo book with pictures of their grand kids
- Gift certificate for a get-a-way to a nearby resort(town) - e.g. if they live in Calgary, give them a two-night stay at Emerald Lake

Not that I know anything about Warhammer either, but there is a store in Chinook Center right by the theaters called Games Workshop that sells all kinds of Warhammer stuff.

My sister buys my moms gift (normally spa package for her and my mom) and I pay 75% of the cost.
For my dad I am looking at getting him this to convert all his old pictures and any negatives he has to digital. Costco.com in the US had it on sale and I have been skowering ebay and different sites for it for about 2 weeks now.

I find buying gifts pretty stressful. Thankfully, I don't buy anyone gifts and they don't buy me anything. Wouldn't want it any other way. Well, I guess until I have kids one day. Then that's a different story. I always find shopping for toys pretty fun.

Beware, if you are in Canada there no options that I can see so far other than possible and Ameri Postal Forward company, I havent had alot of good experience with the 2 I have tried. The 2 on ebay, both sellers refused to ship to Canada.

A few awesome ideas, unfortunately I've used most of them before, so keep them coming!
On a side note I was working at The Source the Christmas those Hex Bugs came out. We kept them on the counter and were supposed to offer them to everyone.
I hated the idea of shoving more crap down people's throats so I did the worst pitch ever but it always went the same way:
Me: Do you want one of these Hex Bugs? *in defeated I can't believe I'm saying this tone*
Customer: No, why what are they?
Me: I have no idea, they're stupid, they just crawl around and when they bump into something they change direction, if you make a loud noise they'll follow the noise.
Customer: That's dumb why would anyone spend $10 on one of those?
Me: The only reason people give me is they buy them to torment their cats *rolls eyes*
Customer: That's A Great Idea!!! I'll Take Two!!!
Me: oooooook?
