Default Handicap bathroom stalls

I was at a conference meeting this afternoon. The conference room had a dedicated washroom down the hall. During the coffee break, 4 people went to use the loo, which had just two stalls (one handicap) and an out-of-order urinal. I was there first, so didn't have to wait, but the other three lined up waiting rather than use the empty handicap stall.

Personally, I've used them before. Was I wrong? Is it ok to use a handicap bathroom stall if all others are occupied, or should it be treated like a handicap parking spot?

If you're just going in for a quick pee and no one's about that might need it, I don't see the issue. But, then, I dislike using urinals. If you're going for an hour long crap, then, yeah, don't use it.

No you wernt wrong. At the gym I use them first. They are much more luxurious. The only time I dont use them is when I know someone in a wheelchair is in close proximity.

Why should a handicapped person not have to wait if they need to use the washroom anymore than anyone else might have to wait if they need to use the washroom?

I mean if there is a guy in a wheelchair in the washroom, or you know one is coming, then then I could see a case for waiting. Making someone, even someone who is handicapped, wait to use the washroom shouldn't be considered poor form since it is just how life works.

After having Brazilian BBQ, I specifically search for a handi-cap bathroom stall because the handles really help you bear down.

We have 2 handicapped spots at our building that noone has ever parked in.

I always dump in the handi stall. There is usually a lid on the toilet to stop the random auto toilet flushes and the bar is great for gripping.

You realize people in wheelchairs often have limited, if any, control over their nether-regions, right? While you may be perfectly comfortable holding it in for 10 minutes, the man or woman in the chair, in all likelihood, is not and physically can not. There's a reason why they are separate in these situations.

Weird, I thought it was because the wheelchair couldnt fit into a normal stall.

I say go for it. Just be prepared to get up mid-crap and shuffle walk over to the other stall (or sink) if you see wheels waiting at the door.

I agree that you should go ahead and use it.

The stall is there so that the handicapped personal will have an option that is user friendly. It is not there for the sole use of the disabled.

Of course this is completely my opinion ... I've never actual read this in any sort of manual.

In my 32 years, I have never once seen a wheelchair in a public washroom. I usually opt for the handi stall because it's so spacious, and a couple feet further from the guy crapping next to me.

I like to use them.

There is just so much more elbow room, and I love the elongated bowl that handi-cap toilets have. I have one at my home and I love it. It is higher off the floor and leaves room for error when drunk.

I admire your commitment to a comfortable crap.

if the stall is full I just whip it out right in middle off the washroom anyways. so if u want to reduce your exposure to handi-caulk.-keep it free haha

Handicap stalls tend to be cleaner because people feel they can't use them. Combined with the additional space for flailing and a standard handlebar for bracing while laying cables, I will use them first and foremost over normal stalls.

They should make all stalls bigger and fix this problem!

To be honest, this is the first time I have given the issue any thought. I see them as "wheelchair accessible" and not necessarily "wheelchair priority". If there are other stalls available, I leave that one open in case someone comes in that can't use one of the narrower stalls. But if they're all being used and the wheelchair accessible one is available with no wheelchairs in sight, I see it as a legitimate option. If myself and a guy in a wheelchair were waiting for stalls and the wheelchair one opened up, of course he'd get dibs.

This is totally different than parking spaces. You deserve to get your tires slashed and your windows broken if you park in one of those without a permit.
