Well since my San Fransisco trip has been cancelled I am looking to go waterskiing this summer for my vacation.
I am a beginner, and I just want to try it out.
I have no idea where is the closest place to go is so I am hoping some one here will know.
EDIT: Can a Mod please edit the title.
Thanks.

The slough in Chestermere is OK if you're alright with getting covered in seaweed...
Go to one of the following lakes in BC:
Lake Wasa (very warm but small) - close to Fernie
Shuswap Lake (cooler water early in the year, but big) - by Sicamous/Salmon Arm
Okanagan Lake (ditto) - Kelowna/Penticton/Vernon
Lake Kalamalka (warmer than Okanagan, also smaller) - Vernon
There's another lake like Kalamalka near Penticton whose name escapes me...
Osoyoos Lake (small, some weeds, but very warm) - near Osoyoos... it gets hot there in the summer
Though I've never been myself, I've heard lakes in Saskatchewan are also pretty good for waterskiing.
Long story short, leave the province of Alberta. B-)

I think there's a boat down in Whitefish if/when we go down this summer.

Go with a group of buddies and rent a houseboat on shuswap, you can rent boats by the hour and waterski by day plus at night there is that beach where the boats all come together and it is a girls gone wild debauchery fest. You will definitely see some boobies.

Wizard Lake just this side of Edmonchuk is a waterskiing lake. I have no idea about rentals or anything of the sort but it could be a good weekend thing. Obviously not too far away.

Your probably thinking of Skaha Lake in Penticton
Also in the Okanagan is Wood Lake, it is connected to Kalamalka Lake via a small channel, Kalamalka is by far the the better lake, cleaner, less busy, but a bit colder. You should be able to rent a boat on any of these Lakes, allthogh, you may have to rent in Wood Lake (Turtle Bay Marina) for Kalamalka, I don't recall a facility to rent on Kalamalka, Okanagan Lake has countless places to rent, but the Lake can be choppy/busy and a bit cool (but in the summer-quite refreshing).
Mara Lake is another option

There are Tons of places to go skiing in Alberta. I spend all summer at Pine Lake Skiing/wakeboarding. There are a ton of lakes not too far from Calgary that are great, like Sylvan (not my favorite), Gull, and if you're up for heading north, there are dozens of good large lakes that you can ski on (Cold Lake, Crane Lake, etc.)

Well, Sylvan is pretty shallow and Pine Lake has a bit of a weed problem. Cold Lake's name probably speaks for itself (can't confirm that myself)....
While water skiing is possible in those places, it's not really that good when compared with the lakes of our provincial bretheren. But it's all subjective, so I'm not doubting you have a good time in those places.
Mara Lake: actually a southern arm of the Shuswap, and probably the best for skiing because it's smaller (less choppy and slightly warmer). Good mention.

That's why I don't like Sylvan.
A lot of work has been done at Pine to clean it up and it definately shows (trust me, I've been going there all my life), and Cold Lake isn't so bad in the summer (it can get pretty freaking hot up there, and the water ain't too bad).
As for the big lakes in BC, sure they're nice, but man you get a lot of days where the waves are just too big, so it's not bad for tooling aroud on two skis, but if you want to do some serious skiing, the smaller the lake the better.
