Default I didn't know what the song was about

I was going to respond in the "I don't care what the lyrics say", but slightly different. Thought it was more about subject matter that you didn't quite get to begin with. As an example, The Verve Pipe - "The Freshman".

One of my favourite songs of all time. But up until about a year or two ago, I had no idea that the song was about an abortion. Had no idea before, but the lyrics make sense.

The other I can think of in that manner... Cyndi Lauper - "She Bop".

Masturbation.

My wife makes fun of me because I never listen to lyrics, not even of my favourite songs. Maybe it's because I'm such a terrible singer so I don't even bother learning the words. My favourite Springsteen song is 'Born in the na na na'.

Even though Every Breath You Take is about a stalker, it is played at weddings every weekend.

Don't Stand So Close To Me, is about a teacher-student relationship.

Other songs about masturbation:

Pictures Of Lily
All I Have To Do Is Dream
I Touch Myself
Blister In The Sun
Dancing With Myself
Turning Japanese
Darling Nikki
My Ding-A-Ling

As I mentioned in a thread a few months ago, Boom Like That by Mark Knopfler is about Ray Kroc and McDonalds.

Big League by Tom Cochrane is about the late Flame's prospect George Pelawa.

The song Turning Japanese is about the squinty look that you get just before you finish polishing the rocket.

"My Humps" is about a cancerous epidemic to the music industry.

Tool's Prison Sex is not about having sex in a prison... It's about child abuse. Later MJK spoke about the horrors of his step father.

I actually had the chance to ask Tom Cochrane himself when he was in Balzac this summer about this. He denied it. Said it was about a kid in Eastern Canada, but happened around the same time as Pelawa, and Lindy Ruff's little brother, which are the two main misconceptions of the song.
