Oilers Trade with Penguins

Oilers GM Cheese unhappy after giving up the lead and win to the Wild today threatened shakeup and delivered on that promise. The Oilers dialed up GM Goffie in Pittsburgh, also unhappy with his teams play, and a deal was born.

Going to the Penguins is Dman Zdeno Chara along with Sean Donovan and AHLer Matt Halischuk.

Coming back to Edmonton is F Stephen Weiss, D Anton Volchenkov, uber oldager D Mathieu Schneider and AHLer Gregory Stewart.

I wanted to add an impact defenseman and I think that Chara is easily top 5 in the NHL. Weiss is a solid two way center but our forward depth is great and I felt that I had the depth to make this deal. I am a fan of Halischuck's 2 way game and think he can be a good 3rd liner down the line. Volchenkov is a guy I like a lot; but with him being a UFA after this season and our team having a lot of big salaries he would have walked. Dono and Schnieds were both added to meet roster limits.

Basically I feel I gave up 2 really good players for one elite player and I think this deal will help both squads.
