Default Burris: Time to cut him loose?

I said coming into this season that it was the litmus test for Burris. Is he really the guy who has the franchise QB records, or is he "Big Game Burris" who will screw it all up when the pressure hits.

Clearly it's the latter. There is no evidence to come to any other conclusion.

I'm all for cutting him loose and bringing a guy like Joseph in to back up Tate.

He is not going anywhere. The oline wasn't very good today in either pass protection or opening holes for the backs. This game really was lost on 2nd downs while the Riders had the ball. How many times did Durant find a wide open receiver just at the first down line? Several times. The refs sure make it look funny when there are 15ish penalties to one team while the other team only has 5.

As I said in the other thread probably best to keep him around unless you can get a stud like Chad Owens from Toronto and some draft picks. I wouldn't be surprised if the leash is really, really short next year. No more giving Hank time to work out of his Frank periods. As soon as Frank makes an appearance throw in Tate and just alternate with the hot hand. I believe his status of uncontested starter should now be challenged as he's just not a clutch guy and this is a talented team that continues to get sunk by no clutch and finish.

Burris fails to win the big game yet again. Had chances to run with the ball in the first half and didn't. That alone would have loosened up the Riders defence. Then there's the inability to make the big play. Durant was the better QB.

Tate isn't ready; I also don't think his arm is strong enough to be a full time starter because he can't stretch the defence.

I think we are stuck with Burris for at least one more season. I love Hank but he hasn't been accurate all year and has missed dozens of wide open receivers. I think he's pretty much done. The defence is amazing, I wish we had a more consistent offence.

Burris doesn't show up for big games, but when you continually get jobbed and sit and watch there is nothing you can do. If Burris threw 5 touchdowns tonight, I am 100% sure that Andre Proulx and his disgrace of a crew had ways to call back 4 of them.

Hard to judge anyone in -15 C weather. Burris is nominated for MOP in the CFL.

Another big game where Burris didn't get it done. That's 4 straight playoff losses to the Riders. I think you go with Burris for at least another season but he's on a short leash. Tate gets more reps next season and hopefully works his way in a few seasons as a starter.

The Stamps have been too good the past 6 seasons to only have 1 Grey Cup.

They were never going to win a championship under Higgins. Higgins came in and did a great job getting them back to a highly competitive level but Huff has put them over the top. Despite what I think of the officials today, for the most part under Huff the team has been disciplined. But not today and to me, that is the biggest reason why they lost.

I think they would have won the Grey Cup their first year under Higgins but Burris and Reynolds turnovers handed a comeback to the Eskimos. The Stampeders have really wasted alot of good teams over the past two decades. Bottom line is Burris isn't a big game player but another player that's never been huge in the playoffs is Reynolds. He seems to get shut down more than not in the playoffs and the Stampeders offense is best when they are moving the ball on the ground.

Just so I have this straight, only 4 days ago Burris was named the CFL all-Canadian QB for the first time in his career. A mediocre game (albeit a big one) and he should be given the boot?

Wow. Just wow.

Except it's the biggest game of the year and with the exception of 2008 poor performances in the playoffs have been the norm for him. That's why I would keep him around for the regular season because when he's on he can be very good in the regular season but maybe have Tate ready for the playoffs as Frank usually shows up in the playoffs.

This was actually one his better performances from a turnover standpoint in a loss actually. He missed some throws big time, and didn't run either, and had a horrible horrible penalty called on him.

When Burris is on he is probably the best player in the CFL, and when he is not well then you get what we got tonight, and probably 3-4 more turnovers. He has that look on his face that he looks dumbfounded, and its annoying. He has the tools, its the mental part that leaves you scratching your head. He makes brilliant touchdowns passes, and then the next possession he throws a pick in triple coverage. Its just really unfortunate he looks like complete trash in the playoffs for the most part.

the thing is for a guy like burris when you're struggling with the pass use your legs and i can't believe he got a measly 1 yard on 1 rush attempt

How much of that is him? How much is a defence that gets him the ball? How much is coaches that call the right plays? How much is the O-line? The receiver corps? The running game?

Burris to me has always seemed like the weak link on this team. He's just not very smart. I knew the interception was coming before it happened because on the plays immediately before he started making risky throws under pressure.

Why would you get rid of Burris when the league sabotaged his game with questionable reffing?
