Major Trade
It wasn't intended... it happened almost by accident, but the Toronto Maple Leafs made another blockbuster, this time with the Nashville Predators.
Brad Richards is on his way out of town, along with Trent Hunter and Craig Conroy. Coming to Toronto are James Neal, Benoit Pouliot, and Rick Dipietro.
"We turned a great 30 year old with a 9M contract into two great young players under 24 that will tie up only 8M together." said GM Prottotype.
"Yeah... I'm sure we could have gotten more, but for the rebuild, it would be hard to match a player like Neal, and another young player who seems to be on the brink of turning the corner in Pouliot."
So why would the Maple Leafs bring in a player like Dipietro?
"We wanted to make sure our goalie situation was taken care of this season, as Neuwirth is still a season or two away. Dipi, regardless of all his health problems has been a personal favourite of mine for years. Glad to have him on board, even if for this season... or less"
Not much is left that would be considered sexy for the Leafs, but the team is always looking for a deal. We've turned our big stars into some solid youth, and have created a lot of cap space heading into next season. It may not make sense 20 games into this season, but we hope it all falls into place soon, and win a few games along the way.
