Emerald Lake Lodge
I just got back from a 2 day family trip to Emerald Lake Lodge.
I would really recommend it for people that want to get away from it all.
With the exception of the main lodge there is no wifi, no T.V. no cellphones, nothing that lets you communicate with the outside world.
The rooms are admittedly a bit small. But they're cozy and old school and are dominated by a very nice wood burning fireplace. If you're scared of fire, you ask at the front desk and by the time you get to the room they've lit it and stoked it and its burning away.
To me there was nothing better then sitting by a fire place in a old looking wooden padded chair with a good book and a nice scotch or coffee with baily's or whatever you're choice is. Add on to that its pretty romantic if you take your significant other with you.
You get a really nice view of the mountains. You can rent snowshoes or cross country skies or just take a walk.
They have a games room with a full sized snooker table which was sadly out of focus. There's a T.V. but they disabled the volume on it if you have to catch up on the hockey scores.
The food is good, its a little pricy as are the liquor prices, there's a lot of fresh game type of meals which is great. if you've never had Bison pastrami you're missing out.
the drive is a little long as its outside of field but it makes for a great couple of day trip to the mountains where you can pretend the outside world doesn't exist.
The room pricing is actually pretty reasonable. But be prepared for expensive booze and food.
The entire staff is Australian it seems which is kind of cool, I got our waitress to join us when we were playing yatzhee, but she had ungodly luck (rolled a yatzhe in two throws. Then a high straight in one.
Great trip.
