Default RV rental company recommendations

Considering renting an RV this summer, and I was wondering what companies in Calgary folks have used, and if you have any recommendations?

Edit: Considering a 2 week road trip to Toronto and back, late August, to give an idea of duration, time of year, and mileage.

How long do you want it for, and what kind of RV are you looking for?

RV rentals can be insanely expensive. An association I am with used to rent them for 4 days over July long weekend, and even with a "preferred customer" rate it was something like $1500 for the weekend.

If you're going to want to use it more than that, seriously consider picking up an old motorhome from Kijiji/autotrader. You can find some decent '70s units for in the $3000 range.

Yeah, looking at CruiseCanada.com it looks like about $4400 for a 2 week rental with 7000 KM. I'd be inclined to buy one (even slightly used) and then sell it after the trip.

Also factor in your gas. I'm going to make a wild guess at 12 MPG; so about $2000 worth of fuel as well.

I've used Cruise Canada and have done a private rental. Renting from an individual person was a lot of hassle, but about $800 for the week. The Cruise Canada rental (for the same annual trip, ~1200km) cost about $1250.

I have to say that Cruise Canada was a fantastic experience, and I'll be using them again. You never worrying about maintenance and storage of an RV when you rent it, but you definitely pay a premium. If you decide to rent, I would HIGHLY recommend going into the Cruise Canada office and working out a deal (you won't pay the website prices.....).

As for fuel.....checking my log, we averaged ~24 litres per 100 through the mountains. On flatter terrain, using the cruise, you'll do better, but likely no better than 18-20.

Whatever route your choose - enjoy!
