Default HBO's The Pacific

Who else is really looking forward to this 10 part series?

To me, HBO is one of the only channels ever worth watching. Lots of great programs and I loved Band of Brothers.

Yeah I can't wait for this, too. I checked HBO on my pvr menu a few days ago and it wasn't showing up yet (except for a behind the scenes teaser).

I'm in. I was thinking of canceling my cable, but ten I realized I need it for the Olympics and The Pacific...actually, I think that means I have to activate HBO. Dammit, how much does HBO cost a month? Oh well, it will be worth it.

Time to order movie central again, record 20 movies and cancel for another bunch of months.

I'm really looking forward to it. I wouldn't worry about whether it will be good or not. Its HBO and the same producers as Band of Brothers. It will be excellent.

Canada should hire Tom Hanks to do some movies about Canadians in action. Lots of good stories out there from WW1 and WW2, just not the best movie storytellers.

One of the things I like about the Americans is their love of their own history, even if its self inflated, and how they preserve and enrich it through great movies and documentary series (ala Ken Burns). Wish we had something like that.

You've obviously never seen the Log Driver's Waltz, then.

You know this guy singlehandedly ruined friends right? Just a horrible actor.

I checked on my pvr a few days ago and it didn't show up yet. There are like 8 listings for the "making of the pacific".

this is going to be so awesome.

David Schwimmer didn't ruin Friends. His relationship with Joey in the last or second last season was awesome, too. Do you remember when they figured out they had the best naps if they slept on the couch together? That was one of my favourite parts about Friends.

Schwimmer was also good in Curb Your Enthusiasm. And his voicing of the Giraffe in Madagascar is really good, too.

I'm not a super fan or anything btw - I actually don't even care that much about him, but your analysis is bizarre IMO.

War in the pacific seems alot more like WW1 trench "boring" trench warfare style.

Hopefully there is enough naval and air battles to make this one interesting. Unless they go more character driven less action driven. With BoB you clearly saw elements that lead to victory. In the Pacific, the nuke lead to victory. I have high hopes for this but to compare it to BoB is a little over estimating IMO.

^^^ Wow.. you have NO idea what the Pacific theatre was like.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the final curtain call, it didn't win the war. That war was on the verge of ending, it was more of a statement to the Russians.

It was like D-Day over and over and over again. Landing on an occupied island being shot at from pill boxes and trenches, trying to get to shore, then once on shore you faced a pretty much fearless enemy.

It was brutal and savage.

And by the by, if you think that the first world war was "boring" then you've got another thing coming.
