One of Canada's top military commanders a serial killer?
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1459994/
Chilling to say the least
Quote:
Police said Monday that Colonel Russell Williams, 46, of Tweed, Ont., has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jessica Lloyd, of Belleville, Ont., who went missing Jan. 28.
As well, he faces a second count of first-degree murder in the death of Marie Comeau, a Corporal with 437 Squadron at Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
Col. Williams, who is a commander at CFB Trenton, also faces two counts of forcible confinement and two counts of break and enter and sexual assault.

I read about this in the paper this morning and I'm suprised it took this long for it to show up on here.
Quite the disturbing case, especially since one of the victims was also a member of the Forces.

One of the file footage they showed was him talking to whom I think is Peter Mackay. They didn't say it was him but it's hard to mistake his profile.
Scary to think that someone like this could have this much power in our military.
He's being investigated for a third murder and if he's linked to it, he would qualify under the generally accepted definition of a serial killer.

Someone left a comment on another site that said he was known as "Russ Sovka" at Upper Canada College in the early 80s. Odd if true. And it is amazing how little is known publicly about this monster. Was he too ordinary to be noticed or too powerful to be questioned?

Apparently they are opening cold cases now looking for similarities.
Aside from the 2 he has already been charged with, a 19 year old was slain in 2001 and found on a base that this guy was stationed at.

We would like to think that the military is truly made up entirely of the honorable and brave, but the reality is different. Not that I'm not anti-military nor making an anti-military statement of any sort whatsoever, just pointing out the facts. I'm sort of glad we don't have stats like these for the Canadian forces, but in the US military 62% of the women are sexually assaulted by their colleagues, and a full third of them are raped... and what's truly amazing is that those are only the reported cases, and that much more of it is probably happening.
Maybe it's a good thing for the morale of the country in general and especially those fighting for us that the ugly side of the military isn't in the spotlight more often, but there certainly is an ugly side to the profession, much like anything else I suppose.

That is so high, that it can't be true... I'm not blaming you for reporting it, but how about a reputable source? Were that true, the US military would collapse under its own scandals, IMHO.

In 2001 the number of women sexually assaulted in the American military was 8%. Unless everybody is turning into a rapist, I highly doubt it increased to a whopping 65% in less than a decade. Less than 1% of men are sexually assaulted.

That being said, many likely go unreported.

Although it seems I misunderstood, and the numbers are in fact not exclusively the reported ones, though the reported ones are also quite strikingly high.

I always find it crazy how evil people like this leave so much evidence. This guy even kept detailed notes of his crimes, along with photos and videos... then catalogued everything.

Pretty disturbing when real life imitates Criminal Minds.
Look for an episode later this year "not based on similar events".

I read an interesting study that one or two things occur with serial killers
1) They want to get caught, they subconciously leave evidence that points to them in an indirect name. Or they hold onto trophies or evidence that can be used against them later
2) A part of their thrill is not only killing, but playing a game against their pursuers by leaving enough evidence to point in their direction, or keep the police on a path that makes capture a real possibility
3) The really sick ones, have a compulsion that they feel that they must act on to excise it from their lives. These are the ones that don't want to be caught until they're done what they have to do to become in their mind normal. I think the writer called them demon killers and cited Jack the Ripper as a demon killer because of the way that he escalated each killing, and when he literally butchered the last one, and could take his time with her he finally excised the demon compulsion and could stop killing.

I wish we could hang this animal. Reading the reports from the trial is awful. I feel horrible for the two women he murdered, its sad their families have to hear the details.

Final chapter of this case concluded today as Williams received two life sentences, plus numerous other sentences for his sexual assaults and break ins.
Certainly must be somewhat of a relief for the family members of Jessica Lloyd and Marie Comeau that this part of the process is over.
Watching some of the interrogation video was interesting. Williams certainly thought things were rosy until the detective showed him the matching tire tracks and boot imprints.
