Buying Art Online
Hope someone on here has experience and can give me some tips on what to expect/look out for...
I am considering buying a couple of fairly expensive pieces (Charlesworth) from a gallery in BC. What should I demand to see in advance before I pay?

I've never bought art on line, so I can't give you any information, doesn't anyone carry it locally.
BTW I bought most of my art at the Editions Gallery in South Center because they're willing to haggle, and my Dad used to work there.

Sure, but they gouge more locally, and the people in BC haggled. And if you like a certain painting, you have to get it where it's sold.

I almost bought some Michael Godard pieces from a guy locally, his website is http://www.redsunfineart.com/index.html
He was slightly cheaper than buying from the US and included free shipping. The website does not list your particular artist but maybe he can help you out.
Good luck!

I'm so not a fan of Godard, I mean I met him at a showing and he's an interesting and neat guy. but to me his art has a limited shelf life, and a limited chance of retaining value over its life. It just reminds me too much of dogs playing poker on black velvet.

The times I've bought art online it's been directly from the artist, but I don't imagine buying from a gallery would be that much different. Presuming you've already decided on the specific pieces you want to buy, I think the main thing would be to ensure the gallery is reputable and to use a credit card for payment if your limit is high enough (preferably a gold/platinum card with good insurance coverage) so if you don't get the art you can get your money back. I'm not sure what they could provide you prior to taking your money.
If you're starting to deal with amounts that are higher than you can put on your credit card, maybe it's better to actually go to the gallery? Flights to BC are pretty cheap.

Yes, what I was thinking too - I can easily cover the price with my MC which has insurance. Obviously, if we were talking huge money, I'd just drive or fly there. And the gallery is an "official" rep for Charlesworth, so I am not overly concerned - it's not like I'm ordering it from Hong Kong.
