The UAE's highest judicial body says a man can beat his wife and young children as long as the beating leaves no physical marks.

This is also the area that just banned Canada from having a military base there because of airline flight allowances. So no one should be surprised in the shady way that they operate.
Oh yah, they are also one of the many Nazi state that has forced RIM to open their security so they can spy on their citizens and other foreign nationals that go there.
UAE/Dubai, the place where dreams are made.

The only thing is that this makes it public.
Since they've treated woman like sex cattle since the start of time, this is no surprise at all.

I'm not sure, but, here in Canada, I think you're allowed to spank your kids, but it becomes abuse if you leave a mark, right?. Spanking the wife? I guess that's legal as well, isn't it?

By the look of many of todays youth, I think spanking has been replaced by the bs 5 minute timeout in the corner followed by no video games tonight parenting angle.

Do you think our children, our most precious resource, would ever go with out Nintendos for a whole night? I don't think so.

As I understand it, you can spank your kids on the butt, with nothing but your hand. The instant you hit them anywhere else or use a weapon of some sort it is breaking the law.

I use both. My daughter (who is 3) gets a 3 minute time out for various offenses. If she refuses to go into time out, we count to 3. If she isn't in the corner by the time we hit 3, she gets a spanked. When we first started this a few months ago, we had to spank her a few times. Now, I only need to hold my hand up with one finger (and not even say "one") before she realizes that she needs to do what she is told.
Some times, spanking isn't warranted. Various stages of toy denial is common in these cases. We remove toys for various time periods, or in extreme cases we make her go and throw her toy directly into the garbage (recycling bin) so she realizes that her actions have permanently lost her the toy. Most of the time, we later remove the toy and put it into our closet etc.
My daughter certainly isn't a perfect child by any stretch of the imagination, but of all the parents I associate with, they all comment on how well behaved she is because she understands that there are consequences to what she is doing. It doesn't mean she always remembers that before smashing a plastic golf club over her brothers head, but that goes with being 3...

Yes, limited corporal punishment is still legal in Canada. Spankings on the behind with an open palm as discipline do not constitute abuse. Yes it stings, but it leaves no permanent damage and otherwises causes no harm.
Also, I think even teachers have the right to physically restrain out of control students in the classroom is the situation warrants.

This is disturbing...
However, on the brighter side it reminds me of that Trailor Park Boys episode with the phone books.

So, a slap across the face is abuse now?
FFS, I used to get a backhand across the face for mouth-breathing as a kid. But, to Dad's credit, I never mouth breath, and I feel bad for the MB's that didn't have a caring father like I did.

My mother broke so many wooden spoons across our butts that she ended up going with some monstrous, indestructable avon plastic brush for quite a few years. Man that thing hurt like you wouldn't believe. My dad's belt was a thick leather beast that inspired fear when it was removed. Lucky for us (or maybe not) he was passed out drunk more often than not for those years.

Same with us, mom had the wooden spoon until I got home before her and ran that thing through a bandsaw.
Dad originally was a couple of swats with the belt, unil I stuck a book down the back of my pants pre spanking and the swat sounded like a shotgun blast.

She put relish on my sandwich. She deserved the beating.
