Getting my Flames flag to Nashville?

This thing is the 4 footer or so with the small wooden stick as its base. It won't fit in my suit case... will American Airlines stash it for me some where? It's too big for carry on... any ideas?

Take it off the stick and buy a new stick in Nashville

use a collapsible tent peg for the stick. If its too long you can fold it back on itself for more rigidity.
