The Sharks have shipped veteran defenseman Derek Morris down the I-5 to Los Angeles along with Washington's 3rd round pick in 2011 in exchange for prospect Brett MacLean and a 2nd rounder in 2011 and another 2nd rounder in 2012.
"Simply put, we made this deal because there are not a lot of good prospects in the San Jose Sharks system, and Brett MacLean is a good prospect," said Sharks GM therizzle. "A very good one. I mean, the guy scored 61 goals and added 58 assists for 119 points in 61 games in junior. And that's after a year where he scored 47 with 53 helpers for an even 100 in 68 games. We expect him to be a top 6 forward on this team within 3 years.
We liked Mo, but he's going to be a UFA at the end of the season, and when there was a chance of us picking up a guy like MacLean, we had to take it. Even if it meant trading him to a team in our division."
Thanks BJ for hammering out a deal quickly. And no thanks for being so stubborn about Luke Schenn.
