Default Road Closure - 16 Av/Home Road NW

Incase you didn't see it on the news, there was a fatality accident this morning around 1030 near 16 Av and Home Road NW. They've shut down all westbound lanes and only have one eastbound lane open. Unsure how long it will be closed down for.

just finished passing through the area in the east bound lane, looks like all west bound traffic has been routed through Bowness. Grusome scene....thoughts and prayers for the deceased cyclist.

Sounds like he was riding the wrong way down the street and veered into the trucks path. Yikes. I feel bad for everyone involved.

Reports were that is was an elderly person - so it could have been a simple loss of control or even something medical.

There are a lot of very low income people that go to the Safeway there, and then walk/bike along the highway.

Very sad!

What does being low income have to do with it?

Exactly, low income people may not have a car, so will walk/bike.

Remember, Greenwood/Greenbrier is at the intersection of Stoney and 16th.

Well considering the person was hit @ Home Rd/16th, he wasn't going To/from Safeway from Greenwood or Bowness.

My guess is that it might have been a bottle collector. Lots of them biking around with big bags on 16th heading to the Montgomery Bottle Depot

I live 2 blocks away from home road and there are alot of bottle pickers around here. They never ask for handouts or money and just stick to themselves and their bottles.
