I didn't know you can buy an extra battery for the Ipod mini. If the battery craps out, you have to send it back to apple, along with 99USD, and they send you a new one

a) I do not believe in the iPod Mini - you are paying for the sleekness. Why not get a 20G instead?
b) I am all for the extended warranty - probably the only extended warranty I will ever get. In 2 years, I will take my iPod in regardless of performance and get a new battery.

Don't waste your money on a mini. The creative labs one has an extra gig of storage and is cheeper. If your don't want that, shell out for a 20 gig player of whatever brand. They're not that much more money, or physical size, and the increase in storage is huge.
Minis are made for rich people who don't have the music collection to need an MP3 player but just want a cool lookin toy.
Also stay away from the shuffle, its the worst player on the market.

do you own the zen micro, I've been meaning to get one for the longest time, but now I've started reading about manufacturer's defects and players freezing randomly and what not.
Still, if you've got one, PM and let me know what you think of it.
As for the Mini, if you want to be integrated into the "iPod" trend, go right ahead.

Well its not for the trend but for the music.
Because this summer I might be doing coast to coast in canada and want something that will hold lots of songs and can charge on my laptop.
Is there something else then the Ipod but has the same features but cheaper then the Ipod

I've done it with an MP3 CD player, iPod definately would help make that go a bit easier, mind you I had no problems with just shy of 300 songs (I lost 2 or 3 of my CDs almost right away, haha)
Keep us updated with how that goes, in the east we'll make sure you won't be thristy (or atleast I won't)
hospitality was great when I was in Cowtown, more than happy to return the favour

I had a 20G Creative Nomad Zen, but needed more space so got a 40G ipod.
If you want a cheeper alternative to an ipod, the creative labs players are great. Between me and my bro, we've had 3 different models in the house and all have been awsome. The features on both Ipods and Creatives are almost identical. The Ipod has advantages in it's look, size, display and range of accesories but the creative labs have great firmware, playlists, features, cost, and better software than itunes(IMO). With itunes you have to transfer from cd to harddrive and then to the ipod and you can't transfer back to the harddrive from the ipod, whereas Creative you can transfer straight to the MP3 player if you don't want to use up space on your harddrive and easily transfer back to it later.
The only reason i jumped brands is because the 40G ipod took a price drop and was being cleared off the market. I had 0 complaints about my Creative and for the money they can't be beat.

The iPod Mini 6GB has an extra gig of storage then the Zen Micro that's currently available and if you get the educational discount its the same price. Plus the battery life is superior on the Mini and iTunes is better then WMP or the software included with the Micro.
As for who minis are for, not everyone needs to have 20GB of music at their disposal. You can get by with 6GB of music at one time. For some people, physical size is more important then hard drive size.
As for the shuffle being the worst player on the market, that's a load of crap. Testing has shown it to be among the best mp3 players on the market when it comes to audio quality. Yes, it lacks a lot of features but it plays music and it plays it well. If you're updating the music on your player everyday, which is incredibly simple on a shuffle using iTunes, you don't need a 20GB mp3 player. And if you don't care what song comes up next on your player, who cares if it has a screen? There are plenty of times you're listening to your mp3 player and don't bother to look at the screen. The shuffles controls are so simple that you don't have to look at it to be able to control it.

I never thought BlackRedGold25 would say something I agree with but here we are..
I've got a 512 shuffle, infact, I'm listening to it right now. I love this thing. People who bitch about not having a screen, perhaps you should know your music collection a little more.
Everything about it is so sleek and easy to use, it's so light as well.. perfect for when you're at the gym. It just slips in my pocket and I barely notice it.

Some people have reported the battery lasting up to 25 hours instead of the 18. I don't know.... mine hasn't seem to have lasted that long judging by the battery indicator but I've also been bringing it out in the cold and I've never had the Ipod battery simply die.

Ok, I guess I was a bit harsh on mini users. They do serve their purpose, but I still think they're overpriced. The 6G mini is about $320 right now. I payed $420 for a 40 G ipod and IMO an extra $100 is well worth another 34Gs. And a normal Ipod is pretty small anyway.
As for Itunes being better than Creative Media Source, I must disagree but I guess it's a matter of opinion. Having used both, I prefer Creative Media Source.
Battery life on my Creative player was a little better than my iPOD. Havn't compared the minis but on the full size models the edge goes to creative.
As for the shuffle, why would you want a player that you can't choose your song? Almost every other player on the market has a shuffle feature anyway and many are just as small, have displays and cost less.
On sound quality, all of the tests I have seen have put Creative ahead of Apple every time. If you know a good site that compares them, please let me know.

I don't like anything from Apple period. I'd buy a player that uses AAs or AAAs if I were you, much less headaches with them, just use rechargeables and they'll last you a good couple years for about 8 bucks.

Like im not a big music downloader.Heck it might take me 4 years to fill up the ipod mini. I think 4gb is the most i'll ever need on a mp3 player device. So im thinking on buying a ipod mini. Not for the fashion trends but for the length of a battery and just using one disk rather then 5-10 cds.
Everyone's bringing up good points.
Hey kermit can you pm about the shuffle. like the best pro's and con's of the shuffle.
