Lakes are part of our territory. Not sure why you would exclude them.
As far as usuable land goes, the U.S. far more than us though.

The link in the OP was a redirect from a search of "List of the world's largest countries". Standard definition is that that includes all area, not just land area, so I repointed it to the list that goes by total area.
The article icarus was referring to is still here, and lists Canada as fourth by land area:
