Do you need a student ID to use this?

I can't say honestly.
All I know is that the different college's/universities around Calgary use the same sticker, so I know you could use it on another piece of school ID.
As for putting it on any form of ID and being able to use it, I'm not sure.

I am pretty sure it has to be on a student ID card. Sucks people have backed out. One person backed out of mine, you should pm them, they need a U of C one.

It's a good deal, someone will bite.
ALthough, the same people who will try this are those who'd ride without paying anyway, so good luck.

Do you know if this U-Pass can be used on a SAIT ID or does the sticker itself refer to U of C?

According to 3 Justin 3 they colour is the same for MRU and U of C... I have no idea for SAIT personally.
If it's a golden colour sticker, then I'm sure it won't matter. If it's a different colour then it won't work.

Mine is gold. It has, in super fine print, MRUXXXXX the x's being numbers, on the middle of it. My best guess would be that no bus driver would ever notice the sticker is for the wrong school.

IMO, there's a ~2% chance that the LRT cops would notice (and you only get checked by them around once a term...and they don't really care). Transit drivers don't care. They just see the shiny sticker and let you through.
If the SAIT ones are the same, there shouldn't be a problem in all likelyhood.

FWIW, I've been stopped by bus drivers about four times(over the span of three semesters), and in each instance they actually closely examined my U-Pass.

I totally forgot about LRT cops. They'd check.

Dumb question, do you guys put your sticker on your ids yourselves? In Edmonton they physically put our stickers on for us.

No, they put it on. I just take it off right away myself and put it on waxpaper.

So does a blade get that pesky "void" section too? If you peel it off by hand the word "void" (which I imagine is extra sticky) stays behind, essentially branding the sticker. Tricky.

When I took it off before they could put it on properly I didn't have to worry about the "void" part.
Anyway everyone who has wanted my sticker has backed out it's frustrating.
I don't need it, so first one to PM me gets the sticker for free, obviously having to meet me at the U of C.
Knowing my luck with this damn sticker no one will PM me haha.

I was attending SAIT the very first year that the U-Pass came out. Assuming that conditions of the U-Pass have not changed, the system's pretty solid.
1. You must be a student to make use of the U-Pass. It gets attached to your student ID card. On any other form of ID, it is null and void.
2. All full time students at a post secondary institution pay for the U-Pass as part of their tuition, whether they use it or not. That's how these institutions were able to get such a good price: the catch was 100% participation or no deal.
As I recall, this caused some controversy among the SAIT student body as a minority of students felt it was an unreasonable charge as they never rode Transit. the U of C SU actually rejected Calgary Transit's offer initially, but capitulated under majority pressure the following semester.
The conditions of the U-Pass make resale virtually pointless. Anyone that can use a U-pass should in theory already have one.
