Anyone have a favourite in the $15-$20 range?

I have lots above that, but everything below that seems to tatse the same to me these days -which is to say crappy.

And since I'm cheap and like wine, this is a problem.

Suggestions?

Virtually anything, especially Reds though, from South America (Chile 1st, Argentina 2nd) in that price range should be SUPERB value for the dollar.... I have been on a serious Chilean Syrah/Shirah binge myself these days....

Well, what scale do you follow for wine? In Canada we have 1-3 1 the driest, and 3 the sweetest.

I like mine dry. My favorite wine of all time is made by Brolio - Chianti Classico. Desert dry and great for red meat or red sauce. Really brings out the flavor. All I drink is red so I can't help with white.

Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon (South Australia) is dry and very tasty.
SummerHill (Kelowna BC) Pinot Noir is high in quality and low in cost.
Try these and you wont be dissapointed.

I prefer sweeter white wines, so I would recommend Grey Monk Chardonnay

Thansk for the suggestions all.

We drink reds almost exclusively, but occassionally white. Definitely nothing sweet.

Yellow Label is one of the wines we've had a fair bit of. I'm definitely going to try out the Pinot suggestions, as well as some Chilean Syrah. I've had a lot of Chilean Merlots, but I don't know I've ever tried some of their other varietals.

We like the Columbia Crest Merlots, but again kind of bored with it. David Bruce Pinot Noir is a favourite, but too pricey for us to have kicking around the house.

Next time we have people out on the deck I might have to get Cats Pee on a Gooseberry Bush just as a conversation piece

Fat bas**rd Merlot is pretty good as well..tho i have no idea the cost in canada.

Intense dark ruby color, aromas of stone-fruit like plums and cherries, combine smoothly with cedar and toasty aromas. On the palate its generous, round and juicy tannins are well integrated bringing harmony and complexity.

I make my own wine, and it's great. Set up costs around 100 bucks give or take, and then you can start making good wine for about a buck a bottle. Can't beat that!

Anyone ever heard of "2 buck Chuck"? I saw a thing on 60 minutes last year, and it's apparently some kind of mass produced cheap vino, but as good as any other $30 wine. It's from California, so I don't if it has come to Canada yet.

I also don't know what it's called (Charles something???) but it was $2 US a bottle.

Actually in Alberta it's 1-99 with 1 being the driest and 99 being the sweetest.

If you're looking for a different wine and don't know what to get it makes it easier if you ask yourself a few questions:
1.) Do you prefer red, white or both?
2.) Do you prefer a drier/sweeter red/white?
3.) Do you prefer a wine with more or less body?
4.) What wines have you had in the past that you enjoy?
5.) Where are they from?
6.) What did you like about them? (Fruity aroma or a more oaky tone?)

Note these considerations then while you're in the wine store ask someone who works there what they know in a wine with characteristics like the one's you've noted.

Some people are very hesitant to ask for help with wine but they shouldn't be because you'd be amazed how knowledgable the employees are at various liquor stores.

BTW if you haven't noticed I work for one myself hence the long response.

Charles Shaw. I am not a wine snob but 2 buck chuck is hurtin. Sure there are crappy $30 wines out there, but you can find wines that are worth paying a bit more for rather than buying this shinguard.

So it's in Canada? I wouldn't mind trying it to see what the hype is all about. What does it taste like? Mcdonalds Orange pop?

Baby Duck or Red Devil is good. For $15 you can get 3 big bottles!

Dont bother with glasses...leave it in the brown bag!

LOL! you mean "orange drink"!!!

You can get it at Trader Joe's in the US. I don't think it has graced the shelves of Alberta as yet.
